I just changed out all my speakers and head unit. I currently have a Clarion nx404 installed. It does everything I need except when I am playing music from my phone via Bluetooth the head unit doesn't display any song info. The display just stays frozen on whatever was played last when I streamed Pandora. The other issue I have is that if my phone screen shuts off the remote no longer can control phone functions ( pause, next, etc).

My question is, is this normal for aftermarket units and just something I have to deal with, or can you recommended a good nav unit that doesn't have these issues?

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend pioneers "NEX" series of head units. Have 2 of them and they work great! Before you jump on one though, you may wanna wait until they have the ones with android auto and apple car play in them. They announced that they will have them out very soon. I'm deciding on going with one of those or trying the factory 8.4 nav unit.

recommending a radio is like recommending a brand of car. everyone that has one will probably be biased towards their brand. I personally have owned alpine, kenwood, and pioneer (all dvd/nav/video decks). all of them have their plus and minus. what i recommend is going to different stores and play with them get the feel for the interface. you may find that one someone on here recommends you hate.

also dont pay attention the max output wattage. no radio will ever get to that level. pay attention to the rms rating that the continuous power at everyday listening.

I agree with you on looking at whats available before buying, but unfortunately in my town Best Buy only has 2 on display, and each of the three other stereo places only have one each on display. Im not too concerned with bells or whistles, I just want to be able to control my phone from the head unit.
