Hello! So I've used alfa obd years ago to change to led turn signals as I went to alpharex headlights. Everything worked smoothly back then. Now I just installed a trailer brake controller and module in my 2019 1500 classic and alfa obd wouldn't connect to my computer so I assumed it was my Bluetooth connector cause it was a cheapo. So I just took it into the dealership to have them update the truck to have the trailer gain added. They did that and it works, though it reset my led turn signals options and the dealership can't change it back and alfa obd still isn't working with my obdii connectors.

So my questions is, do I need a new expensive obd2 Bluetooth connector? If so which do I get? And can someone please tell me what body computer module I need to select for a 2019 1500 classic as it's been a few years.

Or if there is anyone in the Willamette Valley area of Oregon who is willing to help me out, please let me know!

I've been using OBD Link MX+ Bluetooth since 2018.

Never once has it refused to connect, and i've used it as recently as a week ago.

Then go the the active diagnostics page, then "Car configuration change", then find the setting in the dropdown for your lights.

Also make sure te connection settings are correct. If the BAUD rate is not right, it won't connect. I forget offhand what it should be, think it was 115200

Which Security Gateway bypass harness are you using?

Just a reminder, all 2018+ Ram trucks require a bypass cable to use AlfaOBD or the like.

I have used the MX plus for at least eight years with no issue across many FCA vehicles. For many years, I used a laptop that I had previously retired and turned off Wi-Fi to prevent it from updating (it was just that old)

When that laptop died, I found that my other infrequently used laptop would occasionally give grief when connecting… As I used the laptop so infrequently that it was too busy updating the OS in the background…which seemed to conflict with anything else going on.

All that being said, if you have any struggles connecting, you may want to make sure that your operating system is not doing something in the background that would conflict.

I use the $50 OBDLink SX. Much cheaper and having a hardline connection is faster and more secure than using a Bluetooth connection.

Caveat; I use a windoze laptop for AlfaOBD, the above interface uses a USB-A connector.

Well sure but if you want to use you're android phone vs buying a tablet or some other device then BT is the best option...

For what it’s worth, the software that comes with the MX plus is pretty fantastic… You can download manufacturer specific data on any vehicle that you plug into. I find that I use the MX plus software more than I use anything else. I have zero regrets with it.

That's great but one still needs an OBD reader to plug into the vehicle before it's of any value.. I'm just asking are there other OBD readers that work with this sucker or are you beholden to the $140 MX+ device?

You don't need the Plus to use it with Android/Windows. The "+" just means it can talk to apple devices, so get the regular MX, or any lower option off OBDLink's page, and you should be fine.

I know there are a couple others, but they seem to be much more hit or miss, depending on if they are legit or clone, and it's hard to tell if it's real or a clone. But the + really is a waste for anyone to use with Alfa.

But unlike others, I hate the OBDLink app, other than to update the dongle firmware, I either use Alfa, or Torque Pro for all my OBD-II related needs.

I have heard there are others, but I did not want to gamble with compatibility/ connectivity frustrations in the future. I have used this numerous times over the past decade on my own and my friend’s vehicles.

Frankly, it paid for itself the first time I copied keys and I have done that at least 4 times
