Truck has a bunch of low end torque. Tires often slip coming from a stop on gravel road onto a paved road.

I am concerned about performance when winter weather gets here. Has anyone switched to All Terrain tires who can tell me how they perform on these trucks?

Thanks!

I switched to All-Terrains right away.
I work 3rd shift and need something that claws through deep snow and unplowed gravels.
A little more road noise and a little less gas mileage are a small price to pay for staying on the road or not missing work.
Be warned- I can still spin the tires from a dead stop without hardly trying.
On dry pavement street treads will hook up better than ATs.

My Laramie has the off road group, which includes AT tires. I can easily spin them. I doubt any tires would keep you from spinning them when "coming from a stop on gravel road onto a paved road", although some are better than others. Also, AT tires don't necessarily help when driving in winter conditions. The Toyo Open Country AT tires that I had on my 2017 Rebel were terrible in the snow.

On gravel it takes a lighter foot on the gas until you get onto solid pavement. One thing with gravel roads is that the more open the tread the greater the odd of picking up gravel in the treads and then having it tossed up against the truck as you roll down the pavement. A neighbor had Michelin LT tires that were particularly adept at picking up gravel and his dairy is down a long gravel road. He replaced them with a different brand of AT tires.

Hmmm. Thanks for the input. I had to come back to look. Didn't get notified of replies despite selecting that option. Ah well.

I mentioned the spinning off of gravel merely to illustrate the torque that it has. Clearly that really needed no description to other RAM owners. :)

My two areas of concerns for tractions are winter driving which includes ice in addition to snow. Secondly will be pulling boats out of the water from ramps of differing make ups and quality.

I understand AT's might now be what I am looking for with respect to winter weather. I will ponder that. From what little I have towed this year, the current tires in 4WD are quite manageable. I expect next year will include pulling some heavier boats out of the water.

The Toyo AT3 is a phenomenal tire. Snow and slick boat ramps

Hmmmm. Philly is a bit far. Never know. I might find myself in the mood for a real Philly sandwich.

I can tell you were the real sandwiches are and not the tourist sandwiches :)

My 2004 Hyundai accent with a 1.6L would spin in gravel and Peel tires coming into pavement..... So that was apoor way to display your low end torque.... Lol
But for a great AT tire for gravel, why surfaces and very good on snow and ice, the Falken wildpeak at3w. Had them on my f150, open diff, and this ram with open diff. Zero issues running them all year here in northern Ontario.

Only been to Philly once. Drove from DC to NYC, driving thru Philly right at lunch time. I researched the best places for the real deal the night before. Place looked like it had been there since the 40's, roads so narrow it was a wonder they weren't all 1 way with no parking.

I saw them give a guy a roll of the eyes when he ordered his sandwich with something other the Whiz. It was sooooo goood.

If you can afford them a set of full on snow tires on their own rims are the best bet for winter driving.
I used to run a set of summer and set of winter tires all the time till my trucks got new enough that a new set of rims was cost prohibitive.

The firestone tires that come on the HD trucks are crap. We bought two this year and we both hate the tires. We also bought a 1500 and it came with Falken AT3. After 700 miles we got rid of the Firestones and bought the Falken AT 3 and are very happy with them and they are snow rated.

As far as AT tires go, look for tires with the 3PMSF (3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake) symbol. This symbol actually means the tires are snow rated, and they have to pass certain requirements in order to be able to use that symbol. Don't go by the M+S marking, as anyone can use that rating on the sidewall of their tires, but it really doesn't mean anything. Here's a pic of the 3PMSF symbol...

Part of that 3 mountain snow rating is the compound too.
Winter tires need something that doesn't get too rigid in the cold.
One of the reasons few people run snow tires all year long is the compound is pretty soft in the hot weather and they wear quickly.
I actually like a Mud/ Snow tire a lot.
They don't pick up and sling gravel as bad as tighter tread tires either.

I just got the toyo at3, they have the mountain snowflake rating for snow, but dont have any in ND yet to give an honest opinion on them. They look good, but will say i think the Falken Wildpeak AT3W was great in snow on my 2015 Ram20201106_163233.jpg
