The PC license can be moved between PC's But can only be used on ONE device. So in order to move it you have to first deactivate the PC it is on.
Hindsight be 20/20 (always is) except in my case where belly button viewing is 20/20
I probably should have gone with the cell version but all is good at this point.
Thanks for your input

Although many users of AlfaOBD are convinced that using it with an Android device is best, I don't trust Google or the Android OS enough to connect it to my truck.

Unless your phone is rooted you are completely at the whim of Google. Google who had been in court on several occasions for privacy violations.

The news media doesn't seem to cover those violations well, but they're out there if you look.

Also, the Android OS is buggy, unstable, and very unreliable. My windoze PC is effectively rooted and doesn’t perform anything automatically besides what I have configured.

If I had to choose between a non-rooted PC or a non-rooted Android device, the PC would always be my preference.

The USB interface is faster, far less expensive than a Bluetooth interface, more secure and more reliable.

I believe your choices were the best available, even if they're not the popular preference.

I didn't see this in any of the answers; I assume not that many people are aware. If you have an Android phone and Win 11 on your PC you can run Microsoft Phone Link (available from Google Play) and run all your cell phone apps from your PC. It also works with texts, lots easier to type on the PC keyboard than your phone. And has a pictures interface.
I use the bluetooth MX+ and a win 10 laptop. Have had ZERO problems with that setup. Has absolutely nothing to do with cell service.

Another device can be programmed with the original AlfaOBD (needs same serial number) and all you need to do is email Alexi at AlfaOBD and he usually responds with in a Very short time to give you a code to activate the new device.

Be willing to bet the dealer was just pushing to try to sell you another piece of equipment "linkey" thing, that you don't need.

AGREED  I should add it was not an "Alpha device" but had their own name on it. Likely a 5.00 AMZ purchase marked up to 50.00 (with their sticker) :emotions33:

I use an OBDLink SX and a laptop with AlfaOBD, it's almost instantaneous when you copy your current configuration to a file.

No worries about not having an internet connection when in the truck, that's exactly how mine works too. You can fire up AlfaOBD while inside the house to install program updates otherwise, you don't need the internet.

No worries about Google Drive, that's an Android feature. A windoze laptop copies the configuration files to a default destination in C:/Program Files/AlfaOBD/... or something like that.

After the file is saved, the program displays the location.

There are many great reasons to use a windows laptop over an android device. With speed, reliability, and security, you can easily take screenshots with your preferred naming.

I keep a log file of all the AlfaOBD changes I've made and the current status using a notepad app on my laptop.

If you have any specific questions or concerns, post them here and we can discuss them.

I don't think so, but you have to contact Alpha OBD so they can cancel the computers access and transfer the license. Not sure on the vehicle cable / device. Might be best to email them at [email protected] with your existing license # as there are variables involved with make model, year etc.

Yes, the windoze app is different.

If you write to Alexey with your android license particulars, he will provide you with a discount code and download instructions.

IIRC, it used to be 50% off for the additional app.

Alexey can be reached using;
[email protected]

I believe you're making a wise choice because the windoze version is far superior to the android app.

Anybody ask Alexy if the app can be downloaded to an aftermarket android head unit?
