I've done my research on them my question is if I get rid of my oem mop at steps and put on some amps am I losing protection of the factory steps that protect the body a bit I often hear rocks of my tires hitting my steps I can only imagine those rocks hitting the body of the truck once there gone lol what's everyone's experience with amp power steps?

Thanks christian

Check with Bailey1. He's a moderator on this site and he has those Amp steps. Send him a PM - he's a good guy and very responsive.

I have 55k miles on my truck right now and haven't run steps since the day I picked it up. With my all terrains, I do have a few small rock chips just behind the tires, but if you weren't on your hands and knees looking up at them, you would never see them. I know a few guys that have had great results running a small strip of that 3M clear protector over the rocker panels. Might be an easy solution so that you can still run the new steps without having to worry about rocks.

Thanks guys I have husky liner mud guards in the front that help a bit but this is the only problem holding me up from pulling the trigger on the steps

If you have flaps, then I don't see it being a problem. I don't have flaps, and I only have a few tiny chips on mine.

Having flares greatly reduces the chance of getting rock chips as well. I have the AMPs now, but didn't have any steps on since 500 miles on my truck and I only have a couple of very small chips that probably have been there since before I got flares (just about a year ago).

Get the AMPs, you'll love them.

I have the AMP steps and love them. Installed them myself and they are worth every penny. I say go for it. You have the mud guards so I don't think you have to worry about getting chips in the paint.

Also, if you need any advice on the install we will be glad to help.

To be honest.....It took me almost all day, that's because I am my own worst enemy when it comes to DIY. Everything has to be perfect.

You will have to tap into a few factory wires but the kit comes with posi locks and the wires that you "tap" are color matched to the wires on the harness. Your 12 is probably the easiest to do because the wires are located directly under the fuse box, next to the battery.

Love my amp steps and it took me all day with many breaks....like Bailey1, I'm a perfectionist, so I take my time cause I want it done right.
Either way, its doable and instructions are not that bad.

Took about 6hrs here but I have a 13 and the wires are located under the dash by the firewall. Had to remove many pieces and play contortionist in order to reach them. This was a mandatory upgrade for the spousal unit and kids, my F150 Harley had a similar setup and the wife couldn't wait for me to get it done to this truck. JUST DO IT

I have the amp steps as well. All in all it took me about 3 hours for the install, only because I took a bit longer to modify the brackets. ( I wanted them to tuck up under the truck a bit more)

For anyone who has a 2013 and planning on installing powerboards. I will soon post some pics of where to tap into the wires at the kick panel. It is a nightmare to get up under the dash, especially if you have the factory amplifier. I keep forgetting to take pictures, but I will attempt to remember tomorrow, lol.

Listen to this man, if it works it would sure save a lot of frustration, scraped knuckles and overall PITA with the install.

For the 2012 models is there any wire splicing or is it just a plug into
The fuse box?
