I have a 2014 1500 Laramie and I just installed an android head unit. Everything is working but the microphone that’s in the head unit is horrible so I plan on removing it.
I was thinking of utilizing the factory microphone that’s in the rear view mirror but I don’t know what wires I can tap into. I’m hoping someone knows what wires I can use.
Has anyone connected the factory microphone to the aftermarket head unit?

Often times, a third party mic must be used with a third party radio. I'm unaware of any radio that can utilize the OEM mics outside of OEM radios.

^^^ THIS!!!

My Kenwood head unit came with its own mic, and it works flawlessly in my truck.

The new aftermarket radio does have a mic input plug for the external microphone so what I’m thinking of doing is, connecting a 3.5 mic jack to the existing microphone wires that are factory installed in the truck.
Does this make sense?

It’s got a Hemi in it
Like the guys already mentioned, the mics that pair with the Uconnect setup don’t work with aftermarket units. I forget why, but I saw it explained back in my lurker days.

What was done with my Kenwood install by the shop was to run the mic cable up the A-pillar, tuck it into the headliner and run it back out by the mirror.
