Another header question... Y-pipe..?

So if i order the pacesetter y-pipe AirRam - Cold Air Induction System headers it will slide over the headers on the top, and bolt to the cat at the other end? i thought that since these were longer the cat had to be moved back which would mean it would have to be cut and welded.. im confused. Is this y-pipe stainless? what gaskets do i need again? just the mopar OEM ones? sorry i'm being such a with all the questions...

The pacestter Y pipe will NOT fit with the stock cats. They slide right onto the ends of the header collectors so if you need to have the cats for emissions you need to cut the Y pipe or have one fabbed to make it work with the cats. Either way though the cats will be moved from the stock location which is illegal if you get caught.

I used the pacesetter Y and cut it to keep the stock cats and welded them back in. I believe (and you would have to ask teach about this) the magnaflow High flow cats will slide onto the header collectors and the pacesetter Y can slide on to it with no cutting of the Y. But you add an additional cost to your budget.

the y-pipe slips over the header collectors and then over the existing exhaust in front of the muffler. no welding is required if you do it that way (deleting the cats)

ok well i how i was gonna run mine was Lts to opened up cats to Magnflow Y to cutout

the only thing i would need to get welded is the cats to the Lts and the y right?

Are you planning on using the stock Y piping to the mag Y? or are using the pacesetter Y

You'll need to go find an adapter to go from the colectors to the cats which you can find at auto zone or nappa and then the rest should just move back a little. of course you are still bottle knecking the exhaust like that.

if you still want cats do this:

install the longtubes and run open headers to the shop (yeah its loud). buy a magnaflow y-pipe or something similar and have the exhaust shop fab up the pipe from the headers to the cats, to the y-pipe, to the muffler.

you'll need to lengthen the o2 wires for the 2 rear cats also. not hard, but necessary.


edit: it'll be cheaper to have the shop fab up the exhaust than it is to buy the pacesetter y-pipe and hack that beauty all to peices. the pacesetter y-pipe is only good for those that want to lose the cats

No its really easy to put the stock cats in place with the pacesetter Y only takes 2 cuts and 4 welds. The problem with taking it to a shop to have them fab a new one is that they are not allowed to touch the cats or move them period.

Well then call around. I know they wont touch your vehicle if it means moving the cats here

would it be ok to run without the cats? wouldnt i lose downpressure and low end torque? i think i would be fine around here with no cats but i dont want to lose any oomf. could i delete the two on the downtubes of the headers and keep the one between the y and muffler? this **** is confusing... someone take a picture or make a drawing

cheapbeater, doesn't your '03 only have 1 cat? I thought I read that 03s only have 1. If that is the case, get the pacesetter Y and put a Magnaflow cat after it. If you have 2 cats, disregard.

so what did you do with the o2 sensors? did you loop them back around somehow or use the "trick"? theres no bungs in the pacesetters, right?

I think if you get pacesetters they have the o2 bungs and the non foulers go there. Maybe someone with that style setup will chime in.
