Been binging on threads here regarding PPE pans. I'm sending back the Dorman mopar clone I bought from rockauto and buying the PPE. My question is regarding fluid temps and where I live. I just retired and won't be commuting 100 miles to work on weekdays. Probably will be making mostly short trips now here in New hampshire. I'm wondering if the PPE pan along with the caulk bypass I'm installing will be a disadvantage here. Will transmission temps be too low? I don't tow, just drive around like an old lady now. LOL! Also, those with PPE pan do you order a gasket or reuse the stock mopar one?

PPE pan comes with it's own gasket/oring. I think... Hmmm. Now that I think about it I really don't remember.

I've been running the PPE pan with my bypass for 3ish years. Figure I did fluid change at 50k and I'm just shy of 90 right now. Nothing seems unhappy.

Thanks for the reply. No gasket is not included with the PPE but the filter is.

... and you have to transfer the O ring over from your "old filter".

Using Jesse's (@caulk04) bypass will give you a lot more of an " temperature time frame window".

More time to do the tranny fill because the transmission doesn't heat up as fast. (88°-122° ideal fill temps).

Yep, I was thinking that bypass combined with waiting till weather gets cooler in a couple weeks will help out with the tranny fill. So that new PPE filter doesn't come with a new O-ring? That's cheesy.

I ordered a new MOPAR tranny gasket when I ordered my PPE pan, I'll eventually get around to performing this task ...

Man, the best thing that you did, imo, is purchasing the CAULK4 ZF 8 Speed transmission heater bypass valve.

I'm extremely satisfied with the CAULK4 heater bypass on my ZF8 speed tranny.

... heat isn't an transmissions friend ... the "tree huggers" and "bean counters" don't care about longevity of vehicles and pass on the BS to the consumer where it eventually becomes "our" problem.

Lol, nope ... you gotta use the one off of your old filter ...

Thanks. So I'm overthinking this. It's not like I'm living in Siberia. LOL!

Probably overthinking. There are owners who have almot 300k miles. Fluid is synthetic. The t-stat failing is probably the bigger issues...when/if it happens. If it doesn't get warm enough it won't shift into the higher gears as quick..in the cold. Hot weather/temps are worse for them.

Get your truck undercoated and/or oil in the places it rusts. Incl the box frame... That's a larger (and more expensive) long-term problem in my mind...

Yep, that's the only reason I got rid of my 3rd gen 2004 Ram 1500 at 275K miles. I got tired of having to patch up the body before every inspection. :D
