@David Tree, I would not change the trans thermostat until your warranty is up.

What happens if your trans breaks while you are out, and it has to be towed to the dealer for warranty work? They may try dishonor the warranty and try to pin the issue on you, if they see that., IMO

The only thing you could do is check the fluid level according to the green sheet copiously posted across this site by @Wild one.

You might very well be a little low on fluid. Only use Mopar 8+9 speed or ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid.

Jack the rear of the truck up at least 8-9 inches to level the trasmission pan rails.

Crack the fill plug loose BEFORE you start the truck, but DO NOT remove it. Then start the truck and run through the gears according to the green sheet.

Then, remove the fill plug. If no fluid runs out, you need to add some fluid.

You have to do this before the trans hits 122°F, so have everything ready to go before you start.

Good luck.
Or, if you are worried about the noise you are talking about, you have warranty, take it in and have them check it out.

At least you will have documentation, maybe they will let it sit and check it from cold start.

As long as they aren't charging you, why not?

I had planned on installing a PPE pan and Jesse's thermostat upgrade this fall, with the idea that if I ever had a trans fault, I could swap the stock thermo assembly back in before delivering to the dealership.

You nailed it, though. Chances are, any failure will be unexpected, and while away from home, it will involve towing to a dealership.

I appreciate your suggestion, and the smart idea might be to limit the tranny work while under warranty to changing and/or topping off the Unicorn oil.

Thanks for your post, Ed.

My new plan will involve acquiring a PPE pan and Jesse's thermo upgrade assembly in the near future and filing both away until my truck warranty expires in January of 2027.

Until then, buy a jug of Unicorn oil and verify the tranny is correctly topped off.

That is exactly the way Ed luck works...lol

I'm going to buy Jesse's bypass as well. I have a PPE pan and fluid (thank you so much @JHoward).

I may however, buy a few qts more fluid and just do a drain and fill before installing the PPE pan to allow for more fresh fluid in the system.

All depending on fixing my cam/lifter issue first.

From reading many instances of these dealer visits responding with "that's just normal, don't worry", I would be inclined to participate in the road test.

I would insist or find another dealer who will accept my proposal.

These guys are the cheapest in Canada for the PPE pan. If you're seriously considering one,i'd grab it before they go up in price, they've been at this price for a few years,so i'm expecting you'll see a price jump shortly.

They're only a 100 bucks more then the US price,so i doubt they stay at that price much longer.
