My truck is due for an oil change it's a 2014 Ram 1500 with 5.7 engine. It has just under 71,000 miles.

I planned on using Pennzoil Platinum after reading all of the praise I have on this site but when I went to the store they only had the High Mileage version. Is there any reason not to use it and in the 5w-30 viscosity?

Thanks in advance!

I honestly don't know much about the High mileage pennzoil platinum. Would love to see a Used Oil Analysis or a virgin Oil Analysis on it.
If you decide to run it please let us know how you like it.

Use pennzoil ultra platinum (PUP) not regular pennzoil platinum.
+1

PUP is what is called out by the mfr. That's the reason. Another reason is it is excellent oil.
0w-20 for 5.7
0w-40 for 6.4
You can buy it online. I've never seen the 0w-40 in any store.
The 0w-20 was cheaper online than I saw in stores. Delivered.

Check out Burla's posts in the Synthetic Oil thread. Read the entire thread. Invaluable info there. Hell, I'm old and I learned a bunch.

5W20 is whats recommended by the manufacturer for the 5.7 HEMI. Most /many of us on here use the 5W30 because 5W20 is really to thin and shears down to damn near turbine oil viscosity in no time. I use Redline 5W30 personally. If I wasn't using Redline I would probably go with Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W30 and change it every 4K miles or so.

I'm doing QSUD in that weight now with a Fram XG2 filter; waiting to hear back from Blackstone with my first UOA on that stuff! Should be fine.

OP, my thought is about the same as the others. I don't think 70k is high mileage in our Hemi's. A 5-30 Penz or 5-30 Redline makes sense to me. I run Penz 10-40 high mileage in my 03 RAM 5.7 with 230k miles. In my 2018 2500 6.4 1500 miles I run PUP 0-40 4 qtrs and 5-30 3 qrts.

Not a thing wrong with running PP HM 5W-30.
If that's what you have access too.

Use a top tier oil filter! Don't skimp for a $5 Oil filter!

HM oils are not much different then the regular oils!
A bit stronger additive package with a small amount of seal conditioners!

How's the Purolator Boss filter? It says its rated for 15,000 miles I will never let my oil go that long. I am looking at about a 6-7,ooo mile change or every 6 months which ever come first.

If you have accessibility to the Fram Ultra (XG) - your in the game!

In NO particular order - Wix XP / Royal Purple / Fram XG / even the M1 oil filters are all Top Tier/Contenders!
(Use any of these with FULL Confidence)
If your pockets are deep? The Amsoil filter & RP filter are pretty much identical. For the $$ the RP filter is a good price.

Are you limited to buy locally or can or will you order off of the net?

Err, not M1s...not anymore, at least! I was thinking they're good stuff until did a little research recently...of course, now I can't find the link, but suffice it to say I decided not partake of the deal Advance Auto Parts was offering.

To be perfectly honest!
I've never read or witnessed a motor failure or premature engine wear from the use of a M1 filter.

Has anyone else?
If anyone has actual (white paper) data showing its a poor performer please bring them forward.
I used to run them all the time until Fram had Champion labs create the XG line.

I myself would not hesitate to run a M1 filter for 8K miles!
But I know I'm different then most.

Its just not my first choice.

M1 was always my go-to oil filter until last year. Had one were the inner seal broke into pieces and got sucked into the oil filter, if it made it past the bypass valve into the engine who knows. Had another one that had something rattling around inside. And another that leaked. Not sure why so many problems last year. Had two defective Wix XP's also.
Thankfully all the M1 oil filters problems were on my gf little Honda and not my Baby LOL
