Looks like my fluid filming caused an issue with my horns. At first one of them was muffled, then it cleared itself up, but now that one doesnt work at all (of course its the lower tone one that no longer works, so my truck sounds like its inhaled a lot of helium)

I was looking at PIAA Superior Bass just because I didnt like the stock tone, but I didnt want to cut the stock wiring (warranty and all). Has anyone found the equivalent connector that would mate up with the stock wires? I know the female end is molded into the horns itself, but was curious if anyone found a way around it

Otherwise Ill probably end up spending the same amount of $$$ for the (dinky) stock horns.

TIA

I tracked it down and built myself an adapter a little while back. It's a male EV6 connector.

Here's the connector: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Molex/34675-0001?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtmn8YSqN0aUVnP3ldD9cJp

You also need the pins: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Molex/34080-1204?qs=sGAEpiMZZMs7eK6h2EBtKk%2bzkEw0THgvliELgPlhGW8=

The EV6 connector is used on a lot of fuel injectors so you can get pre-assembled pigtails, but I wasn't able to find one with anything but light gauge wires so I made my own.

The one thing you need to be sure of though is that the replacement does not draw more amperage than the stock. The stock horn wires aren't very heavy gauge. Otherwise, you need to use them to run a relay that actually runs the replacement horn.

Thanks for the info! I haven't looked at the horn itself yet so I didn't know I need a make connector.

The piaa unit draws 2.7a but not sure if that's per horn or total for both. Will look into it further.

What units did you use to replace the stocks?

I managed to find a male EV6 with pigtail made from 18ga wire, only $4 at Amazon.

Ordered that, the PIAA superior bass horn set and some adhesive lined heat shrink tubing. Might be able to fix this over the holiday weekend since everything should arrive tomorrow.

I havent looked at the stock horns yet...do I need one or two of those connectors? And since its male, does that mean the stock horn has a female side? For some reason I thought it would be opposite.

Just one. I bought a couple in case I screwed something up, but the stock horn only has one plug. The connection between the two horns is internal to the unit. You need the male for an adapter as the male is on the horn so to plug into the factory harness, you need a male.

Here's some pics of the one I made:

One more question - what did you use to crimp the pins onto the wire? I have the standard el cheapo crimper but I also have a Klein crimp tool that might work for Molex pins.

@kad Thanks again for the info.

Got my pins and connectors today. Realized I dont have a Molex tool but will get that too, shortly.

Do you remember what gauge wire you used? Service manual shows 18ga going to the horn, did you stick with that?

I think I used a heavier gauge, just because it was what I had on hand at the time. I wouldn't go any smaller that's all.

Were you able to mount the 619 in the stock location?

I mounted a Stebel 11690019 - Nautilus Compact Mini Air Horn just behind the driver's headlight (just in front of the factory horn location). I used the supplied mounting hardware through an existing hole in the driver's fender. It's rated louder than the Wolo and has better reviews too. It's loud enough to thoroughly annoy people paying too much attention to their phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CMX20H4/

If you want on board air and obnoxiously loud air horns:
https://kleinn.com/ram-systems/
They mount in front so you don't lose your spare tire.

I see the amp draw on that as 18A.

Did you re-wire or just use stock wiring too?
