For the tailgate, no need to drill holes!!! Holes will rust. I used Velcro tape. Almost impossible to remove if you go all around.

If you have a spray in bedliner, most of those are rather hard/sharp like sandpaper. Much of what people haul would be damaged against such a finish, and a bed mat offers removable protection. What is the purpose of a bed mat? Do you guys go camping and sleep in a sleeping bag in your bed? Not being smart, I just do not see the purpose.

Ever watch two Greyhounds leap into a pickup bed without some kind of bed mat? It is not pretty. For our new Laramie, we got a BedRug bed mat rather than the whole bedrug like we had in our previous truck. It is form fit and has foam cushioning between the ridges. It is held in place with 3M velcro tape and doesn't move at all! Plus when we go to the races and camp out overnight, the pickup bed is quite comfortable for a napping.![]()
I have the Dee Zee bed mat. love the looks of my buddies bed rug and how it is only velco'ed down but worried about the velcro sticking to my spray in bed liner. Too, the bed rug was not as easy on my knees and the more cushioned DeeZee mat. Have not done anything with the tailgate, yet. have a step ladder on teh tailgate, over the spray in bed liner. think I am going to go wth bed rug tailgate mat, velcro down. if it does not last then will try dee zee mat. Would be orefer dee zee mat but, on my tailgate, I dont wantaythign that is permenantly screwed down. Since I want the ability to remove for ease of use, removing load from tailgate. rocks sand, etc.
Just installed my Bed Rug yesterday. I too have the factory spray in liner.
BedRug sells a special installation kit for spray in liners....I *think* its the same velcro as already included, but it also comes with 3M adhesion promoter packets. Cut the packet open and squeeze the promoter liquid onto where the velcro should stick.
I couldnt get the installation kit in time, but I did manage to find the adhesion promoter packets at a local body shop supply store.
Put the velcro pieces on the back of the Bed Rug before bringing it out to the truck (per the Bed Rug instructions) then lined up the rug the best I could and started guesstimating where the promoter needed to be applied. Applied promoter in batches (floor, bulkhead, half of one side, other half of same side, etc), peeled the backing off the velcro and stuck to the promoter-applied areas. Held down near each velcro strip for 30 seconds or so and moved on. Before I knew it, I was doing the tailgate (last) and it was all good to go.
Tried to remove some of the BedRug today just by disconnecting the velcro, and nothing peeled off the spray in liner. The adhesive promoter is good stuff, apparently. BedRugs kit comes with 3M 4298, the stuff I bought was 3M 6396. Couldnt find any differences about them on the internet, the MSDS looks exactly the same, so I went with the stuff I could find locally.
