For the tailgate, no need to drill holes!!! Holes will rust. I used Velcro tape. Almost impossible to remove if you go all around.

I ended up getting the bed rug impact mat. Found it on eBay and after a little bit of haggling I got it for $165

DeeZee bed mat. Heavy, very grippy, thick, just what I wanted and with Amazon the price was good and it came in 2 days.

Anyone else enjoy Amazon not just for the prices but because you also get to see the UPS man wrestle the big stuff to your front door? The best was a class III receiver hitch I ordered. It was boxed so bad, I don't know how it got here. The Ring Camera picked him up at the driveway and I heard so many motherF&$%Rs I couldn't stop laughing long enough to answer when he rang the doorbell.

I met him at the front door when he dropped off the step rails and he just said... your killing me man... walked off and didn't even ask me to sign LMAO!

Deezee bed mat. $60 shipped a few years ago. Best investment ever for the bed. Heavy, grippy and fit perfect. I ran it on my 14 with the spray in liner and now on top of my 18 with a bedrug and Love it. I have had gas, tranny fluid and all types of $hit on it and it’s fine.

I installed the Dee-Zee bed mat. Its nice and thick, and stuff dosn't move around on it. I also have the Dee-Zee tail gate mat, but havn't installed it yet as I don't want to drill holes in the tail gate.

You guys that used velcro to put on the tail gate map, how did you put the velcro on the gate,????. Just stick it on with adhesive,???.
Thanks Dave

I bought a roll of 1 inch wide velcro that already had adhesive on the backside. I just ran the fluffy tape around the edge of the tailgate mat and then ran other roll with the tiny fingers along where the edge of the tailgate mat would mate. You can mark the tailgate with a marker pen if you want it to be precise.

What is the purpose of a bed mat? Do you guys go camping and sleep in a sleeping bag in your bed? Not being smart, I just do not see the purpose.

If you have a spray in bedliner, most of those are rather hard/sharp like sandpaper. Much of what people haul would be damaged against such a finish, and a bed mat offers removable protection.

The reason I got my rubber mat, I put anything in the bed... That grip holds it in place.

Ever watch two Greyhounds leap into a pickup bed without some kind of bed mat? It is not pretty. For our new Laramie, we got a BedRug bed mat rather than the whole bedrug like we had in our previous truck. It is form fit and has foam cushioning between the ridges. It is held in place with 3M velcro tape and doesn't move at all! Plus when we go to the races and camp out overnight, the pickup bed is quite comfortable for a napping. :)

I haul my muddy quad in my bed, so it would just get ruined if i git one. But it would be nice for sleeping on with an air matress to go camping. My one buddy uses two 1" pvc pipes bowed overhead and inserted in the stake bed holes, and covers it with a tarp in case it rains. Easy to set up, and take down for camping. He sleeps on an air mattress.

I have the Dee Zee bed mat. love the looks of my buddies bed rug and how it is only velco'ed down but worried about the velcro sticking to my spray in bed liner. Too, the bed rug was not as easy on my knees and the more cushioned DeeZee mat. Have not done anything with the tailgate, yet. have a step ladder on teh tailgate, over the spray in bed liner. think I am going to go wth bed rug tailgate mat, velcro down. if it does not last then will try dee zee mat. Would be orefer dee zee mat but, on my tailgate, I dont wantaythign that is permenantly screwed down. Since I want the ability to remove for ease of use, removing load from tailgate. rocks sand, etc.

Just installed my Bed Rug yesterday. I too have the factory spray in liner.

BedRug sells a special installation kit for spray in liners....I *think* its the same velcro as already included, but it also comes with 3M adhesion promoter packets. Cut the packet open and squeeze the promoter liquid onto where the velcro should stick.

I couldnt get the installation kit in time, but I did manage to find the adhesion promoter packets at a local body shop supply store.

Put the velcro pieces on the back of the Bed Rug before bringing it out to the truck (per the Bed Rug instructions) then lined up the rug the best I could and started guesstimating where the promoter needed to be applied. Applied promoter in batches (floor, bulkhead, half of one side, other half of same side, etc), peeled the backing off the velcro and stuck to the promoter-applied areas. Held down near each velcro strip for 30 seconds or so and moved on. Before I knew it, I was doing the tailgate (last) and it was all good to go.

Tried to remove some of the BedRug today just by disconnecting the velcro, and nothing peeled off the spray in liner. The adhesive promoter is good stuff, apparently. BedRugs kit comes with 3M 4298, the stuff I bought was 3M 6396. Couldnt find any differences about them on the internet, the MSDS looks exactly the same, so I went with the stuff I could find locally.

Good information here. With having a Leer topper, wind buffeting is not an issue. On my last truck I never took the Bedrug out in 5 years. When I was getting ready to trade, my son decided he'd take my topper and Bedrug. He ordered a Velcro kit from Bedrug and it was an easy swap.

I've had two BedRugs, one each in my 2010 and 2014 Ram 1500. The installation process is fairly simple, but I would recommend that a person read through the complete instructions first to get a conceptual idea of the process. I would also recommend cleaning the bed surfaces where the Velcro strips are applied with lacquer thinner and doing this on a very warm day. My first installation I had help from a second person. I've installed the second one by myself. There is no drilling required, at least on the two I've purchased.

I have deviated from the installation. The BedRug comes as one piece to cover the bed and the tailgate. I found on my 2010 that in cold weather the BedRug material would freeze where it folds together at the junction of the inside bottom of the tailgate. This actually prevented me from opening the tailgate! So I severed the tailgate section from the main section and removed any excess material. I used black Gorrilla brand duct tape to cover the edges where they would come close together at the bottom of the tailgate preventing any BedRug material from touching at the fold when the tailgate is closed.

Over the years I've found that I had to replace some Velcro on the sides, especially at the top edge of the front of the box. Other than that the Bedrug offers a painless surface for your knees and cleans up amazingly well. I carry a 800 lb. ATV and all sorts of other items and the BedRug still looks relatively new. I clean it using a vacuum cleaner.

I was not aware BedRug now has just a mat for the bed.

Best regards,
Dusty

I have a Bed Rug in my Ram under a hard folding cover it covers the entire bed sides and tail gate and attaches with Velcro it has padding to go into the grooves on the bed it does not move around and when kneeling in it the padding makes it feel like a solid floor not the ridges, I love it. It is pricey but imho well worth it

Anyone have a bedrug or other pad with Rambox? I've been thinking about cutting down a DeeZee or getting the "universal" bed rug and trimming it to fit. As a plus of the universal bedrug, I could probably get a nice pad for the fold flat floor in the back seat of the cab for my dog out of the leftovers, or a pad for the tailgate.
