I look at them while driving and am soooooo tempted to have the louvers knocked out and made functional....I don't have the skill to do it and currently don't know any body shops I'd trust to...yet....but man is it tempting!
So, has anyone done it? Would love to see pics!

Think it would look good with them cut out and expanded metal powder coated a contrasting color underneath.

Lots of choices out there! I was looking at the louvers that you can open and close as well. Lots of possibilities! Right now other than cutting the "stock" hood the only other steel hood is the AEV. I like the look of some of the fiberglass hoods, but I don't know how durable or how much they flex under normal use!

Wouldn't that just suck dirt and water into your engine compartment?

No, the louvers don't face forward, not an "air intake" but a way for hot air to escape. There would also be screen under the louvers to prevent debris from getting in. That is why I was looking at the "mechanical" louvers that you open and close.

I'm currently looking into doing this as well. The problem I'm having is finding vents which are the same dimensions as the whole louver area. I'm trying to get a hold of my guy at AEV to see if he will send me a pair of vents. I'm also talking to a few fabricators on if they could make a pair of vents as well.

Odin, yea, that too! Was thinking maybe one large rectangular screen attached to the hood underneath, but throwing ideas around now! I'm also looking at custom shops that do "louvers" now for hot rods and restorations. But, none are close to me, so before I even start shopping, I need to find someone closer than Pennsylvania that "might" be able to do the work!

I like the look of the vents personally. I've seen a bunch of jeeps with with metal screens on the hoods or sides of the hoods and it doesn't look as clean. I wouldn't mind something like this though, how we the AEV vents look cleaner. 27b0180b5c80f4d8e9cdd6cfdc2e9316.jpg
