A while back my truck unfortunately was in a small accident due to a uninsured driver. It took a hit on the driver side as you can see from the door (the fender was already replaced). I am paying out of pocket to get this fixed, but my question is do you think this is repairable? The door edge is somewhat wavy and there is a dent in behind it also. My other big concern is because it is the driver door I am reluctant to replace it because of the VIN label being attached to the inner door jamb. I am not sure of what legal issues I would have to go through to do so. I thought maybe with some heat the door edge could be possibly straightened out and the dent fixed as well and the door repainted, but I need your expert advice. I appreciate any advice you could give, thanks.

I'd bet your most cost efficient option would be to get a door from a scrap yard and do the swap. If you're lucky you'll find one in the right color already.

The door tags are a non issue. You can buy new ones with all the correct information on them.

You need to remove the hinges from the body anyway to properly straighten out the door
When the door goes back on, you have to check the gap between the body & the door
Check it against the gap on the other front door
The gap will be about the same as the thickness of 2 popsicle sticks

You'll need to remove the front fender and the door to repair it as I suspect there is little or no damage to the jam. Any repair needed to the jam can be done then. If the jam needs a lot of repair, remove the section with the VIN and the weld it back in.

You then need to replace the door, either repaired one or wrecking yard sourced, and set the gaps. Then replace the front fender to set the remainder of the gaps.

The door jamb is good both on the inner front and inner back of the door, it was just the edge of the door that took the damage and left a nice dent behind it. My biggest concern has been the VIN label if I replace the door, I know ECS is licensed to reproduce them, but I am not sure if there will be any legal issues with that.
