Update with engine video (daughter taught me how to do it).

It sounds a little worse in person but that is the best video I could get

Please advise if you think I have a broken /cracked exhaust manifold / bolt on the driver side?

OR

Just a bad Hemi Tick at Startup?

It does dissipate after approximately 45-60 seconds.

Is the vehicle still safe to drive until I can get it fixed or am I going destroy my engine if this gets worse?

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum full synthetic is the only oil that’s ever been in this engine.

**Next question - does anybody have solid recommendations on what to replace them with if it’s the manifold that is broken. Assume if I should do both sides because if one side broke, the other probably isn’t far behind.

I love my truck and I don’t want to get rid of it because it is a solid truck

Thank you in advance for the assistanceIMG_7221.jpeg

Hard to tell much of a difference between a broken bolt and a cracked exhaust manifold.

But 5th gen trucks are far more likely to crack manifolds rather than break bolts like 4th gens. Just try to wiggle the heat shields on the manifolds. If they wiggle, you have broken bolts. No wiggle, cracked manifold. You could probably visually inspect the manifold to confirm a crack too.

Doesn't sound like a Hemi tick to me.

Check out this thread. My dad had cracked manifolds a while back.

When mine crack, I am going with BD diesel aftermarket manifolds over stock replacement ones that will just crack again.

Checked out the info on your Dad’s truck.

Thank you.

Dumb question now – You said when yours break, you are going to go with the BD diesel aftermarket manifolds.

Do you have a diesel or gas engine. Assume they make a part applicable to the gas engines.

I saw this video from American Trucks last night and was going to give this some consideration if I have to replace the manifolds.

If I go that route, the big question is, can I do it myself or do I need to find a good wrench turner that does a good job.

I believe I have the know-how, Unless I have a broken bolt, but I getting a little old to lay on my back under the truck and do stuff like anymore

He's dreaming with his claim of 2 to 3 hours to install them, plan on a whole day,and shorties don't generate anymore torque then the cast iron manifolds do,they're geared more towards higher rpm power.
They are probably the best shorties on the market though.

If it was your truck, what would you change out to BD Manifolds, https://us.bddiesel.com/products/ex...ango-11-26-jeep-grand-cherokee-wagoneer-11-23

OR

Shorty Headers,

https://www.americantrucks.com/ram1...headers-natural-1961s-3.html#customer_reviews

I am leaning toward the BD Manifolds based on the reviews I have read today.

Thank you for your input. Greatly appreciate it.

You couldn't give me a set of shorties,i'm a long tube header guy. But if i was looking at new cast iron manifolds it'd probably be the BD versions, but only if my stock ones were cracked. If they're still in 1 piece i'd sand or machine the originals flat, use new hardware and a set of Remflex 6022 gaskets.Once warped ,then sanded flat, the stockers very seldom give any issues again

No matter what way you go,hunt up the Remflex 6022 gaskets. They're a thick graphite gasket, and they handle expansion/contraction better then the mutli-layer steel gaskets do,and they don't require constant retorquing like a steel gasket does

I finally got the left heat shield off. Looks like a cracked manifold is the culprit. Appreciate all your assistance. Going to go with BD Manifolds and the Remflex 6022 gaskets.
