Automatic step not opening ???

My steps did not retract when I closed the door and started the truck, so I retracted them manually. Now they don't deploy when I open the door. I have to deploy them manually. And then they don't automatically retract. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

It seems to have fixed itself. I went out to the garage, opened the driver door, nothing. Went to the passenger side, opened the rear door, the step pops out. Closed the door, step retracted. Went back to the driver side, opened the driver door, step pops out. Closed the door, step retracts.
Ghost in the machine.

Well, I have a question about the side steps. Mine have started to 'grinding' when they come out and then when they go back up to the truck...Any ideas from the forum.??
