Bottom line the rotary shifter isn't as second nature as the shift lever is so this is the short term fix. I must admit a few times I've pulled in the driveway and not looking went to put it in park & the radio volume went down....

Remember a few years back the actor that played Chekov (I think he was the one) in the latest Star Trek movie series was killed when his rotary shift Jeep hit him in his driveway.

Yep. Even after 7months of ownership, I still grab the wrong knob.. No pun intended.:favorites37:

I had the auto park recall done yesterday. I tested it out.. Dunno how I feel about it.

Actually someone corrected me a while ago...I believe he had the strange t-handle shifter that looks like a normal shifter but acts completely different....you basically just push up or down on it to go from D to P or P to D, with N and R in between them. If you dont push up and hold it long enough, you'll end up in N instead of P. Which the actor did and the truck eventually rolled back and crushed him against a wall.

Our "issue" is different, but the result is the same...the truck can roll unexpectedly because we didnt quite turn the knob enough to get into P. But at least ours has a notch at each position, not something that depends on number of pushes in same direction with no feedback of if anything happened (other than the gear indicator on the dash that most people probably wouldnt look at).

Living in Canada with a 2018 and I can say I hate the autopark. I like to hang out of the door while driving my vehicle onto ramps so I can see exactly where the tires are (autos suck for moving slowly up ramps).

But to the OP, I've floored my truck in reverse tho (no wheel spin) and it never went into autopark for me (I was playing).

1.3 mph or slower (the threshold speed for auto park to engage) is hardly “slamming itself into park”.

This. I knew there was a speed at which it was automatically disabled.

I felt like I was going faster than 1.3 mph when mine went into reverse, not to mention, if I wasn't, how was that going backwards too fast, and cause mine to shift into park?

Your situation is something else going on, and you need to have the dealer look at it.

LMAO , yeah go out and put your truck in park at over 1mph and let us know how that works.
This is slamming it in ******* park your vehicle should be stopped when it goes into park.
If they want to do this they would be better off if they made the e brake come on.

Mine does this at an acceptable speed. I had the software update done last week. No issues at all (so far).

Safety features are there for safety. Someone can always argue that they are the pillar of driving excellence, but accidents happen.

When you purposely have to go out of your way to bypass the safety feature, it makes it a conscious choice. This is safer, as it will protect you the rest of the time. An example is the clutch bypass on jeep wranglers (you add a fuse that is normally left out, and it lets you start the jeep with without having to press the clutch). You have to purposely put the fuse in, then when off-roading, you can start in gear, in low range, this way you do not roll back.

When I next need to back up to a trailer, I will be sure to keep the door closed, or simply wear (or plug in behind me) the seat belt. Personally, I have never needed to have the door open AND my seat belt unclipped in order to attach to a trailer.

To be fair though, I have a backup camera.

I think there is a misconception on how and when auto park actually works, and most of the ******** seems to come from people that don’t even have it. In order for auto park to engage, you need to be going 1.3mph or less, the driver door must be open, seat belt unbuckled, and foot of the brake. To put that into perspective, if you’re sitting there with your foot on the brake at a complete stop, and you decide you need to back up with the door open and your seatbelt off, so, you got your foot on the brake, you shift into reverse, AS SOON AS you take your foot completely off the brake pedal, it shifts into park. This is the equivalent of parking on a slight incline, shifting into park, and taking your foot off the brake without setting the parking brake. Not even close to slamming it into park, and hardly stressful on the parking pawl. I would venture to say that MOST people don’t use their parking brake AT ALL, and somehow the parking pawl survives, let alone the once in a blue moon someone will get auto park to engage.
If you back up with your foot on the brake just enough so the switch is engaged (brake lights are on), auto park will not engage.
If you start off backing up with your foot on the brake, and you get moving faster than 1.3mph, and you take your foot off the brake, auto park will not engage.
If you know how to back up properly with the mirrors and all the other technology provided to us on vehicles nowadays, auto park will never engage.

Use em around my property for riding through gates, etc. Also disables it complaining about the seatbelt.

Autopark helps me, I'm still not used to the rotary and I turn the truck off about once a month without turning the dial...it makes me wait and then I can shut it off. I don't open the door until the truck is off...

Don’t ever take the truck out on the road and have one of those buckled in or the seat belt behind you.

If you were on the road and forgot to take it out and had an accident the truck will deploy the airbags because it thinks you are buckled in. If the seatbelt is not buckled the airbags won’t deploy. Air bags deploying when you aren’t buckled in can be extremely dangerous, more so than an accident itself.

Good point.

They do benefit some people and save a step. For those that are already buckled in and arrive at their destination, and can’t figure out how to back in without unbuckling and opening the door, all they have to do is unbuckle from the extender instead of unbuckling and re-buckling in behind them.
