From what I've seen on other forums over the years, it's pretty much the same rule of thumb do to speak on gasoline storage in any vehicle traveling on public roadways in the States or Canada. Personal or commercial. Limited to 55 gal or 200L . Anything more requires a hazardous goods cert. It is basically the same as carrying explosives, most states and provinces allow you to legally purchase a very small amount, for blasting a rock or stump on your property. Police must be informed of your exact route from supplier to property. Any large quantities require hazardous goods cert, formal training. Etc...

are you talkin about carrying more then 55 gallons in the states is illegal? I run commercially, have my own trucking authority, DOT #s, and run my own company and drive for myself. I get pulled for DOT inspections all the time. Level 1s (the most stringent). I got pulled in Maryland 2 days in fact. Never had them even give a second look to mine.
I run a 6.4 hemi 3500 dually with a stock 32 gallon tank with a 100 gal (actually capacity is bout 106 gal) aux tank. So routinely I have 132-135 gal of gasoline on me at a time. Never even a second thought from DOT.
Per FMSCA regs and Us law, you don’t get into hazmat/placards and restrictions until you reach 119 gallons in a single container. It’s considered “non bulk hazmat” which does not require placards or hazmat endorsement on CDL.
Side note- same thing as transporting cars commercially. It makes your insurance go up slightly compared to only being listed to haul “freight” because vehicles are considered “class 9 non bulk hazmat”. No placards or hazmat endorsement required, however, slightly higher insurance due to if u wreck with a dually and a 3 car wedge, that’s potentially 4 different oil spills they gotta clean up. 4 radiators tht could possible leak antifreeze onto the ground, ect ect ect.
