The most important thing when using your mirrors to back up is to get yourself aligned with your target. Which means at boat ramps get your boat aligned straight behind your truck so you can back straight down the ramp and not have to look over your shoulder. Another tip is to make sure you don't have to use your right hand mirror to correct your trajectory because that mirror on most modern vehicles is a convex mirror that makes it nearly impossible to judge distances.
