I have an '87 W150, I just swapped in a low mileage 318 from a '77 W150. Under light acceleration it pops from the exhaust and when I hit 1/2 throttle to WOT it backfires through the carb and I just can't seem to tune it out. The engine is bone stock, with a brand new 2bbl carb. The only thing not stock on this engine is an HEI distributor. Also worth mentioning, I did a cylinder leakdown test before putting the engine in and all 8 held pressure nearly perfect. Any help is greatly appreciated!
