Backup Camera on a switch

I have the OEM backup camera with the screen in the rearview mirror. I'm not sure the name for that... Anyways, I have thought it would be nice to be able to turn that camera on at random times without being in reverse. Has anyone ever done this or know what would be involved? I still want it to come on automatically when in reverse but have an override switch to turn it on at other times also.
