So I have a bad cam on my 14 5.7. 116k miles. Rest of the truck is in great shape so I would love to keep it. What are y'all's recommendations for repair/upgrades.

Once you get a new cam, come on back and learn about heavy additive oils and lubrication strategies. did you have hemi tick? how do you know cam is toast, p0300's misfires? Gotta fix it, even if you trade it right now there is a huge market for older rams, you will get top dollar.

P0306 not missing at idle. But at 1/2 throttle I get backfire. Pulled valve cover to check and yes #6 exhaust valve is barely moving.

I'm looking for recommendations on a mild can, MDS delete, tuner etc. Budget friendly.
Also anything else I need to consider. Cam lifters etc?

@Burla ok so with this Hemi tick thing are we seeing a trend with year models or is it just me? 09-12 are hit and miss. 13+ it seems to be more common. I bought mine used no maintenance record to 40k miles when I took over. As we all know my story. Tick briefly I did my thing and solved it. It’s about to turn 140k soon and still hauls ****. Same as it did at 40k. Granted I have been one of the earlier Hemi ticks before things were really known for a fix it yourself.
@sgtHardA$$ I have personally used this company for many builds over the last 20 years. It’s been tempting to use them again. They say legal for road use, but anything can be tuned out. Trust me I have building modern muscle cars for 20 years. https://www.texas-speed.com/p-8186-mds-delete-kit-09-18-57-64-hemi.aspx

hemi tick all the way in 4 gen to my knowledge. Other ram forum has more detailed info on years, but I know my years pre 2012 also have their fair share. I would say it's my fault for not documenting that, my bad. We had a lot more forum participation back in those early 4 gen years, the ability to document new stuff would likely be less successful.

Haven't observed too much in the way of valve / cam failures since 2017 when FCA supposedly changed lifter vendors and some design parameters.

I also recall lifter and cam failures occurred prior to MDS addition, so not sure if MDS matters, made it worse, or what.

@Tach_tech - can you comment? Understand if you won't.

From what I have read it just seems to pop up more with the 13 and up trucks. It maybe because there are less and less 09-12s on the road that is a big possibility. I agree most people didn't document it. I still have mine like you and I documented mine.

That would be awesome if there was in fact a design change to 2017 since that's what I have. I have been following the forum strategy of better oil with RL 5/30. Noticably quieter.

Anyone have an idea of cost to have this repair done at a shop? While your at it any shop recommendations in the Conroe,TX area? I have currently reached out to Moe's for advice and recommendations as he is just down the street but have not heard back yet. I would love to tackle it myself however I just do not have the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I priced parts through Moe's. Looks like $4000 with tuner cai and larger throttle body. Includes a heavier cam, lifters, bolts gaskets phaser etc
