My truck got side swiped. I was close to 9k miles. I guess it bothers me most that the truck is still pretty new. The damage isn't bad but that's only because it got hit in a driveway while someone was leaving a party I went to. It's at the body shop now. Hopefully it won't take long. They said it will need a new door skin and some welding repair to get my nerf bar back on. The bolts were ripped out.

A chick had a few to many and backed out of the driveway at an angle instead of straight back.

Yeah she is. She never apologized but Monday morning (this happened Saturday night) she called her insurance company , filed her claim and accepted liability. Her insurance sent an approval for repair to the dealership where my truck was dropped off yesterday. At least I won't have to pay for my deductible. The estimate was $1,715.50 as long as they don't take it apart and find more damage.

That sucks, but its nice to know she is taking responsibility. Repair costs are crazy these days - I would have never guessed that damage amounted to $1700. And I hope she didn't still try to drive home if she couldn't even back out of a driveway....

I'm sure they'll get you fixed up as good as new.

Someone called her a cab but I don't think she ever got in one. I left.
I drove to the dealership this morning and they got the authorization to repair from her insurance. Too bad the car fax report will always show my truck as "permanently blemished" and "de-valued" (if that's a word, lol).

That sucks. I bet the nerf bars kept the damage from being worse though.

You're probably right! Of the six bolts holding it on she ripped four right out of the truck. The threads got ripped right out of the body still on the bolts. They never came loose from the nerf bar. They were on nice and tight.

Its always hard to wait a bit before you put it in the shop. But it is worth it to negotiate oem parts and research a quality shop. Another key is to throughly inspect the truck when repairs are complete. If you dont the odds are you will find something not to your satisfaction down the road. I would be particularly concerned about the nerf bars, which is going to be a tough one to check completely. Its always a heart break to take parts off and find shotty repair work holding it all together.

Dang thats no fun, im still mad about a little quarter sized dint in my door from a shopping cart that someone let hit my truck. I cant even imagine that! And as for repair cost yea they are way too high, and i work at a small mechanic shop and i cant even believe what we have to charge for some things, its just outrageous.

I was looking at the dealer list of repair costs. Paint and body were $45/hr. Mechanic labor is billed as $85/hr. Ddddaaaayum!!!

Thanks for the tip. The only thing they might replace completely is the door skin (I didn't even know that could be done in liew of changing the entire door, I guess that saves money). The rest will be bang and bondo. They said they will change the entire door if the support beam inside the door is bent once they get inside.

Yea we charge 70/hr on mech labor. Dealerships are worse, they quoted me 660 to replace a hub assembly on my truck and I did it for the 160 on the part and 30mins of time and this was before I knew anything about mechanics.

I heard that dealerships don't make the bulk of money selling cars. I heard its the service center that rakes in the bucks.
