I have seen a few threads with the same issue and no one listed any solutions. I have a 2013 Ram 1500 and i am trying to swap in a 2017 BCM so i can add a CVPM and 360 view to my UAQ radio. I was able to back it up from the 2013 config file, but when i try to write the VIN it fails and says its outside of ECU parameters. Other threads say that a 2017 BCM should be compatible. Has anyone else found a work around for this? Do i need to get a completely new BCM from mopar? This was supposed to be a wiped remanufactured one

Hmmm. Questionable the 2017 BCM will communicate with a 2013 comms buss. I heard they differ.

Like Ken said, logging into the 2017 BCM, you will need to use the MY16+ Powernet connection, which indicates it's comms protocol differs from the 2013 in some way.

did you try connecting to 2013 powernet or 2016+ powernet?

I'm not sure if one would me more likely to work than the other, but it's worth a shot.

It looks like HPTuners uses the term VCM in place of ECU? When i try to see if it can be used to modify the BCM everything i read says no? Do you know people this has worked for where they had errors using Alphaobd?

Im using the my16+ and was able to restore it from my 2013 back up. I know people have done this swap as ive seen threads and videos of them doing it so we know it is possible. Since attempting this and failing though, ive also seen a lot of threads of people having the exact same issue im having where they never found a solution and just went back to their old BCM. Personally, id like to have a thread with the problem clearly laid out and the solution posted

Clearly, there isn't a definitive solution, as so many can't get it to work and and "the solution" hasn't been posted.

Best of luck
Yah, i think ill have to buy a brand new one from the dealer. From what i read a new bcm should automatically pull in the VIN from the RF module via the vin handshake

The 16 and 17 BCM's are the same, so..........

Here is a youtube video showing how to reprogram a 2016 BCM to your older vehicle

And another:

Also, ask Google AI
"how to program a 2016 Ram BCM to an older Ram".

It will give a pretty detailed explanation.
