Bed Lights Wiring?

Good idea to tap into trailer harness to put a set of led strips in my bed for bed lights? Wanted to just throw a switch inside the bed under the cover. I won’t use it much but nice to have here and there. Don’t think those led strip lights draw much either? I know proper way is prob run it to the battery but was just thinking waaaay easier and quicker BUT don’t want to create problems if I tap into trailer harness power? Anyone know what wire is constant power at the hitch wiring?

Look on the 7 pin cover there is a diagram that shows what wire is what.... or google it.

Ahh cool. I forgot that diagram is on there. Thanks. Ok to tap into it in your opinion? Not like i’m Using it daily or for long times. Just nice to have....

Shouldn't be any different then tapping into it for one of those led tailgate brake light strips.

Does that tow hitch power off when the ignition and/or truck is off?

The 12 volt in the trailer plug does not turn off with the vehicle ignition.

Some guys buy this, it plugs in from the back and you can cut the flat plug off and use those wires

I just hooked mine to a switch in the cab.

I'm going to wire mine to the existing bed light, next to the center stop light on the top back of cab. This way it comes on when I unlock the doors/tailgate, and comes on when I hit the on/off button installed from factory in the headlight switch cluster.

Does anyone know where I can tap into that?

Anybody know the answer to this? Where can I tap into the upper bed light?
