I am looking for thoughts, comments, and pictures.
I am trying to decide on what to get for secure/dry bed storage and transporting canoes/kayaks. I have a '12 1500 Outdoorsman Crew Cab with the short bed and without the ram boxes.
Bed storage: I am leaning towards a low profile over the bed rails toolbox that is not full depth. I prefer the look of the low profile and would like the ability to lay lumber or longer objects under the box so they do not stick out as far past the tailgate. The other option is a soft tonneau cover over the bed that I can roll back and I have a plastic tool box I would keep in the bed.
Canoe/Kayak Transport: I am very unsure about this option at this point. I think it would either be cross bars on the roof, the roof should be long enough to spread them out enough to hold a 14-16' boat. The other option is a cab height ladder type rack on the bed. I have seen variations of this that fold flat with the bed rails to keep a sleeker look when you are not using, I like this idea.
What experience do you guys have with setups that give you some of these features and what did you like/dislike about them?
Thanks for any comments.
