I turned mine off the first time I started backing out of my driveway and it put the brakes on because of the car I had parked in the street right next to the driveway. Only time I'd ever turn them on again would be if I had to parallel park, which having a crew cab with long bed is something I stay away from. LOL

Parallel parking is pretty easy if you learn and follow the steps.

Mirrors and the backup camera make it easy without any sensors.

I had to parallel park on my driving test in 1976. The next time I had to do it was in 2017 at The Mayo Clinic. I did it, but was surprised I did. I am not sure how in all these years, but parallel parking has not been needed, which is good for me, and the vehicles around me.

Very true, the car I learned to park in was a 1969 four door Chevy Impala. Great car with a 350 with 4-barrel carb. If my brakes have to be slammed on I want to be the one doing it not a sensor.

While OP has a 5th Gen and I have a 4th Gen I thought I would try this on
my errand run today. My 2014 1500 Laramie-trim has the sensors, although all
things considered, differences could be seen.

My truck behaved the same as OP's and several others here. I also tested the buttons on the panel, the ones that deactivate the sensors. I turned-off the sensors, then turned-off the ignition and parked and got out. When I got back and started the truck the sensors were still turned-off. I don't know how long this will last or what might reset and reactivate these sensors, but it worked for this test.

They will stay off till you turn them back on. Depending on what I'm doing I leave the backup sensors off for days.

You can also turn off the rear breaking. That's what I did. It's useless and annoying.

I'll have to check the settings, my 2014 doesn't brake for me, and I'm very happy with that arrangement. I didn't know it was a choice for my truck, but I'd like to know where it is so I can keep it off.

So here goes an observation. When I park nose into the front of my garage door the truck starts beeping as I get closer. When I go to leave I start the truck put it in reverse, it starts beeping like I am going to crash. If I back into the garage door it beeps as I get closer. Then I start it and go into drive it never beeps.

Drive only monitors the front sensors.

Reverse monitors both the front *and* rear sensors.

The logic is you can't hit something behind you going forward, but since the steering tires are on the front, you *can* swing the front end into something while backing and steering.

At least in my truck, you can turn off the front and rear independently. If you don't want the front to beep if you're in reverse, just hit the switch to kill the front sensors.

Because when you are in reverse, the front sensors are still going to alert you to objects in front of you and to the front sides, in case you are going to cut the wheel while backing up.
When you back in, then put it in drive to leave, there are no objects in front of you for the front sensors to pick up.
^^^^^This is spot on, as usual.

5.7 Hemi.....wow what a difference 10 years makes.....
If your going fast enough the emergency braking feature will slam on the brakes in reverse and it sounds horrible!

Even at crawling speed, the "Park Sense" kicks in......

I have a Jeep GC and the first time I experienced the "Park Sense" was backing between two very large concrete planters.
I was probably less than a foot away from each one and creeping backwards.
When it slammed on the brakes the wife about had a heart attack.
Took a minute to figure out what happened.

I understand that. The observation is: when I pull in stop for the night or how ever long I restart it place it in reverse to back away from the door. It beeps like I am about to hit it.

If I back in to about the same spot, stop for how ever long, start it put it in drive it does not beep once.

If it did the same amount of beeping I would agree with not caring what gear I am in more.
Because the door is open in front of the track I presume, Put it in R and it beep at you from the back , drive in and it's the front ones beeping, leave the door down and both ends will beep, also I have red or yellow depending how close you are , I know about where 2 in is on mine as to open the endgate with the door down , I need it in close.

This makes complete sense. I turned mine off, because they bug me. I thought I had turned them off before, and they turned themselves back on, so I just said the H--- with it. I turned them off again the other day and they have not turned back on. So I was mistaken about turning them off before.

If you creep slow enough it won’t brake. I do it everyday when backing up to the garage door or backing into handicapped spaces with the sign post right behind the wheel stop.

Mine doesn't have front sensors but I was gonna ask if it's still reading the front as you leave..another posted that's what's happening.

When you put in drive the system knows the vehicle is moving away from the obstruction and won't alert you.

I was creeping, barely moving.
I think it was the fact that I was between two pillars barely a few inches wider than my mirrors that set it off.

It was a one time deal so no worries.
