Hi. I am trying to power up a Uconnect 5.0inch screen model from a 2019 Ram 1500. I have given power and ground to pins 44 and 43 respectively.

I am using the diagram shown here

I do not see any "switched" 12V power to indicate ignition on. I am wondering if this is handled by the CAN system and I would need to hook up pins 1 and 2 to + and 11 and 12 to - to simulate the radio being in a truck ? I don't see an explicit power on button on the radio just volume and tune/browse/enter/scroll knobs next to a screen off and back button.

Thanks

E

Tried giving power to 1 and 2 and ground to 11 and 12. No luck. I see these on eBay being powered up on a bench but they won't tell me how

You need a CANBUS emulator. There is someone on ebay selling them specifically for VP3 VP4 but it should work for the 5" as they all work the same. Its $150.

This goofy thing ? I wonder what emulator they are using to tie into the harness. It's covered in tape so there's no numbers showing

That's it. Just think of the possibilities. One could put an 8.4 uconnect in a 1967 Dodge Dart...

Saw your radio bench test, mine is a replaced one that was tested but it will not come on in the truck. Checked the l floating fuse on the passenger side under hood
shows voltage going thru, question what pins should have the 12v from the connector on back to verify it is getting proper volage
Thanks

It's great when the radio tests good, put back in my ram 5500 and nothing won't come on, dead. What in the truck can cause the radio to just quit and how to diagnose it to fix the problem..any help would be greatly appreciated

I know this is an old post, but I just wanted to share something as I just built an STM32 based device that sends the CAN message and actually turns on my UConnect 5. The most challenging was finding the right pins, and I found the attached diagram helpful. To first test that the CAN messages worked, I used a CANable Pro v1.0 + cangaroo + PC. I will put the turn-on code for the STM32 and diagrams into GitHub and share a link

Also here are the CAN messages I found on MHHAuto forum:

Did you ever open the unit to see what it was made of. I would love to make my own. 150 for plugs and a couple of ic's? Anyone else be able to help me power up a VP3 na? Keeps looping (sierra wireless:bolo file failed). Wanted to hook it up on bench and keep running the update to see if it would take, without it in the vehicle on "run" all the time it tries to update.

Any other places on the net I should look to get this powered up. Next step is to setup canbus sniffing and cansend testing I guess...

Well that is what I did. Setup linux can-utils with a candlelight adapter. Was able to get the unit to come on and start the update. Still errors out at sierra wireless bolo file failed. I'll keep at it, see what I can do with the loop. Unit is a 8.4 VP3 NA #68211959AF. Can't seem to find this part # on the web. Any help with the update would be great. Thanks for the time.

My only cost was the adapter at 25.00 bucks. Linux Ubuntu 22.04, can-utils. One open terminal cangen can0, second open terminal cansniffer can0. Power uconnect and wait for the unit to respond. I didn't run the send commands to wake up the unit. Instead I just ran cangen can0, random data to unit woke it up. Hope that helps some. Now to get the right update file to get it to 18.xx.xx ver. Anyone know where to find the bios/cmos chip where the firmware is hiding? Which chip to clip if I can find...
