Anyone have a recomendation of a complete suregrip kit (inclusive of what of I would need to go from my factory open diff to a suregrip/posi)

I'm a bit overwealmed with the carriers ranging from $300 to $1000 from Yukon...OEM offerings..etc.

Best to look for a low mileage takeout? Start new?

Thanks in advance!!

With the current pricing of the Mopar Trak-Lok limited slip diff and the aftermarket units my recomendation is to hit the local salvage yards and pulls one yourself. My favorite yards sell them to me for $100-150 for most diff cases here in Texas.

Get yourself a new set of diff case bearings, fluid and a tube of axle RTV and get it done.

Okay, here's a parts list you'll need:

1. Limited slip
2. 2 carrier bearing and races
3. New ring gear bolts
4. Dial indicator
5. Carrier bearing preload wrench
6. Large torque wrench
7. Marking compound and locktite
8. Gear oil
9. Friction additive
10. RTV sealant

Are you going to do the install yourself?

Wouldn't tackle myself no. Crush sleeve and pinion bearing also. Yes?

Trutrac is by far my favorite choice. I have one in my redtruck and a 11.5 one in my 07 ram 2500. Flawless performance.

If you're only changing out the carrier, then no, you do not need a pinion bearing or crush sleeve. Only the carrier will come out, and the pinion gear will not be touched.

There are some reasons to go with a Detroit TruTrac over a factory limited slip. Factory uses clutches inside to work the diff, which are items that wear out over time. The TruTrac uses worm gears which hold up over time much better. I have a TruTrac in mine, it works very well. I totally get the cheap part, I'm cheap myself. Just need to decide if it's worth the better item or not

I had TTs both front and rear in the Jeep that I traded in. It was a tank. There were 2 drawbacks, 1) if one tire got in the air it would spin but with a lil brake it would "lock" back up. 2) Gear oil without friction additive is used, and was a PITA to find other than MOPAR gear oil.
