I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Lone Star Edition (SLT). The display indicates that I'm getting 12.5 MPG, but it can fluctuate between 10.5 and 13 MPG - I'm not sure how accurate the display is. I'm looking to improve my fuel efficiency and am considering a Cold Air Intake (CAI) to boost both MPG and horsepower. I've also read that a tune can help, but those are quite expensive. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

You're driving a 5000+ pound truck with a medium displacement V8 moving it around. The ONLY way you're gonna really improve your mileage is to drive like a grandpa. Very soft take-offs from stops, don't let the revs climb too high, don't speed, etc. If you need fuel economy, a truck is not the way to go lol.

What are your wheels and tires?

I have a 2500 with the 5.7 hemi and I get 12 around town and 15 on the highway

( put the plow back on, kick it in 4hi and watch it drop to 8)

So your lighter 1500 gets the same mileage as mine, that's not right

What wheels and tires do you have ?

How old are the plugs ?

1” x 4” piece of wood under the go pedal will help.

With as often as this question comes up, I always recommend returning the truck to stock. Stock tires, stock intake, stock everything. This is what your PCM was programmed for. A CAI, monster 35in offroad tires, etc will pull your fuel economy down. To paraphrase HemiLoneStar, this is not why we buy our trucks, for fuel economy, a truck is not the way to go. Good luck, I hope you discover the path you want to take.
