Beware Goodyear May Pop

3000 miles on my Truck and Rear SRA Popped no load 45 mph nothing in road...

you would think they would have road hazard....

you pay 45000 for a truck they put 125.00 tire on it.

And then you find the spare is 17" tire full size with matching rim to my truck except my truck came with 20's.....

I have heard of pinching a penny but really...

Man that sucks hope you and the truck are ok.

I have never liked Goodyear. Never had a good experience with one of their tires. I know guys like the Duratracs but I simply refuse to buy a Goodyear tire. When I saw them on my truck when I bought it I thought "well see how they do". Absolutely suck in the rain and wear like ****. My SR-As are over half worn at 16000 miles.

I was going to wait til they wear down a bit more to get new tires but after seeing this I might pull the trigger on some Toyo Open Country AT2s or Cooper Discoverer AT3s very soon. I carry my family around in my truck a good amount of the time and I want good tires under me.

Put your 17in spare next to your 20 and see what the difference is.

went to discount tire from dealer and traded in my crappy sra 20s in on Michelin ltx 2s, got 400.00 off the 1050.00 OTD price, which includes instalation, lifetime balance, rotation and road hazard, great first mod, rides way better.

Just wondering? why they would outfit your truck with a 17" spare when your truck came with 20" wheels and tires? Is it because the 20" wheel and tie will not fit in the spare tire well? Is this standard practice, if not do they not owe you a new 20" wheel and tire?

i may have to look into this. i've noticed terrible performance in the rain.

how many miles did you have before you traded them? i'm over 1600.

For the defense.
Goodyear SR-A are a good tire. They are not a truck tire. Since fuel economy rules and fewer people actually using a pickup as it was originally intended they are a good choice for a commuter people hauler. I had these stock on my Jeep and for highway driving they were great! Anything else was nerve racking. Unless your like me and by your vehicle sight unseen you should see the brand and style of tires. Yes I bought my Jeep over the phone and it was delivered to me! I did however know what brand and style of tires it had and even what the spare was. A donut : that I tried to get swapped for full size.
When I bought my 95 V10 it wasn't suppose to have a spare. I saw that it did, when salesperson and I went over a new vehicle check list. When buying my used 2012 I crawled under and checked -salesman just didn't answer when I asked.
The saying your "owed" a correct size spare is not true. If a mistake was made you may be able to swap. But you should have already checked. Driving without a spare or incorrect spare ...

No what? Never mind cause doing so gives the "right" to blame others.

Tires are the most critical part of a vehicle. It's well known that it's the #1 part that a manufacturer cuts corners on. When I had factory tread on my truck I couldn't get traction at all when it rained, I would always have to run 4wd auto.

that's the spare you get with 20s. the tire itself is bigger tho and only something like 2% different then the stock 20s. from what i can tell that spare fits with room to spare so i really don't see any reason they couldn't have gave a full size spare

when i get new tires which is hopefully within the month i plan to also swap out the spare. only real issue i have is that here we get ***** on tires and 20s are about $400 a tire(before tax and other bs fees) so changing the spare is gonna bring my total to the $2500 range

That's why I said put them together and check out the height. The 20 is a lower profile tire than the 17. It's cheaper for them to use the 17 in all the trucks.

Goodyear SR-A are a good tire. They are not a truck tire. .

I kinda wondered about this, they look like a car tire.

I've seen them on new Silverado and F150s so it's not just Ram putting them on their trucks. I'm sure the major thing it has to do with fuel economy/cost.

Either way I'm getting rid of them asap.

My 2014 with 20's came with a temp spare. I believe it is 17" but overall circumference is basically the same. Just like many cars and trucks for years now.

I have not had a problem with any of the SRA's that have come on any vehicle I have purchased including the 14. I am not sure how some of you people are driving but mine do not spin in the rain (typhoon included) and at 28,000 miles they still have 8/32nds all the way around.

I am now going to try out the 22" Goodyears and I suspect they will give me zero issues. I will admit they will only see sunny days but again I have never had spinning issues in the past on wet roads.

I got a set of general uhp grabber LT tires. For 127.00 each at Wal-Mart online. They were 9 bucks for mounting and balancing and lifetime rotation and balancing. Sold 2 of my goodyear for a 100. They had 28k on them, and I got a 70 rebate from general.
