I do not think this is the information I am looking for.

I do not think the countdown can pause. It either counts down or resets and only comes on with the next fault. Or emissions anomaly.

Since I have had a countdown go to zero and go to limp mode, and have had it self reset, I really need to know what is going to happen if I erase codes to see if I have an active code or nothing comes back. Will it "set" the countdown? Is that how Ram keeps you from fixing it yourself? Both times this has happened i had erased codes. Neither time I had a CEL.
Both times this happened was after a hard freeze. I mean like more than 20 below. I wish I could define what that has to do with it. Not sure yet. Def freezes too easy, and all the wonder gizmos that keep it working do not like it. I think that is a given. Hoping the epa gets rid of def. Seen rumors online that is a maybe. Both episodes were def related.

I don't feel great about deleting it. I know they run better deleted. I know mileage gets better. It is a win win. Since I am all over pulling, the chance of getting in trouble deleting is still low. You may not be able to trade it deleted at some dealerships, but some smaller ones wouldn't care.
Looking at delete kits it appears way more expensive to fully delete after model year 22. Since mine is a 19 that makes it more attractive to delete.
If something were to happen to the def system before the next hard freeze, I don't think I will have a choice. It will either be deleted or I will move on and buy something older without def. And good ones with reasonable miles are getting more rare.

Not sure what other information you want.... we've told you what we know. If you want something different, go to the dealership. We're telling you what has happened to us and how we've all managed the issue.

The bad experience at the dealership is why I came here. I am reluctant to bother a mechanic at another dealership.
When i was a service advisor at a 4 Bay repair shop in Denver if people called and wanted to talk to a mechanic that was a no go. Especially if they were not a customer. Do not need a tech distracted when tightening up lug nuts to talk to you about why the flashy thing keeps dinging. If you were a current customer you could get a call back during business hours about your question. Only when the tech was not focused on a customer car in his bay.

Unfortunately, the answers from this conversation may be right. Meaning there is no definative answer on why it sees enough data or doesn't to lock in a countdown. I did ask for technical support from Ram cares. They said they do not do that. I asked where I can get that information and they pointed me back to the dealership I had been at and had allready asked the question multiple times.

I do appreciate very much all the input. If I do find a more concrete explanation , if there is one, I will update.

Didn't even know they made the stuff. Have you used it personally in the bitter cold with good results? Does not look very expensive.
If I may ask, what is the brand you trust?

I don't have any experience personally, but for me it would come down to one basic question...do you plan to keep this truck forever? You won't be able to trade in a deleted truck and selling one can be very difficult. A friend of mine deleted his F250 a couple years ago, and now he's dealing with how to sell the truck because he no longer needs the truck.
Mike, just FYI..there are DEF Delete tunes, that not only require no equipment removal, but the tune automatically stores your factory tune. So restoring back to factory is in fact, easy. There are also stage 2 DEF delete tunes with hardware removals...these also can be reflashed back to factory tune, but of course would require the removed equipment to be reinstalled. Its nit easy to remive or reinstall. My impression of people who choose the stage 2 tunes is they are usually off road rigs and they require the HP boost they typically select during purchase.

You can't leave the DPF installed and turn everything off long term. Eventually the filter will clog. If you're turning it off, you have to take it off long term.
