has anyone ever tried adjusting the height without removing strut from truck ?

Not sure that would be possible with needing to use a spring compressor tool to do that.

I have idea of using clamshell style compressor, take wheel off, put floor jack under lower control arm to put weight on suspension.using clamshell compressor to relief pressure on spring. move clip from 2.1 groove to 1.5. release compressor install wheel.

It takes like 20 minutes to take a shock off. Pretty sure you'll waste more time trying to finger **** those garbage spring compressons on a mounted shock.

BAD, BAD idea!!!

Anything you're considering would be more work than just pulling the strut. It's what, 10 nuts per side? You remove the tire, the nuts from the hat and pull the two inner lower control arm nuts/bolts and the strut drops out.

You can adjust it without disassembling the strut, I've done that before. But I doubt you can adjust it while its still on the truck.

to all who have replied, many thanks, obviously i am not a mechanic. As we all know, mechanic rates have gone way up, like everything else! I have had bad luck with mechanics in my area, just trying to save money.

We all get that, most of us do a lot of our own work, partly to save money, partly to ensure stuff is done right, and partly because we like it. Take the struts off, adjust, put back in. Will take less than an hour and is 2 out of ten for difficulty. I call that a 2 beer job.

Use a quality spring compressor! My 40 year old chineese compressor bent 15 degrees. It was like working on a bomb!

those rental compressors from autozone etc and the ones that only consist of bare thread stock and ends (without a telescopic case to take up bending force) are for sure a good way to meet nurses and doctors at your local E.R.
