2016 1500 big horn crew. 5.7. I’m going to need front shocks soon. I was thinking of doing the bilstein thing for a little leveled lift in the front. I’ve been looking online and stupid question. I’ve seen some Kits that had the shocks, some springs and 2 discs that say it’s all for the front for like $700
  • Includes Front 6112 ride height adjustableshocks
  • Lift coil springs
  • 0 To 2.75 in. Front Lift
  • upload_2020-7-23_17-18-44.jpeg
and then I’ve seen just the shocks (I think this is correct)
Bilstein 24-187367 | B8 5100 Ride Height Adjustable | Shock Absorber.

Do I just need the shocks which go for around $130 ea or do I need that whole kit like the pic.

thanks.

the 6112’s come with new coil springs they are day and night better than the 5100’s that use your existing coil springs. Go with the 6112’s you’ll have a much better ride. If you’re on a budget and not looking to better your ride there is nothing wrong with the 5100’s as they give you the same height adjustments

Ok that makes sense. I also see the kit has beefier shocks too.. I’m budget conscious right now and not sure when I would do it. Just dropped a bunch of money on new falkens getting put on tomorrow plus alignment so that was a quick $1000 out the window :dancingpoop:

@Nick@GotExhaust can help with budget constraints. If you're not overly concerned with overall offroad prowess the eibach kit is an awesome setup for its price.

Comes with new coils and shocks front and rear. Should ride extremely well on road and can handle some play time as well so long as you don't go jumping in the sand dunes.

I'd wait on the alignment until you install the level hit or you'll be doing it twice.

Yes the 6112’s would compare the the Fox 2.0’s category and the 5100’s would compare to the eibach kit.

had to get tires and alignment done today. Also had to get a set for my girls ram and will be doing her mounting and alignment at the dealer on Tuesday so 8 falkens, 8 mount and balance and 2 alignments = broke for a long while.

If you don't mind I would like to join the thread. I purchased the 5100 set. Should I buy aftermarket springs? I don't do off-road much. Only when I go hunting.

How a truck rides and handles are totally subjective so you may not be able to get an absolute answer on whether you should buy aftermarket front springs.

But the objective part is no, you don't need aftermarket springs with the 5100 height-adjustable struts. I am 5 years in on mine with the factory springs and have experienced no problems that could be attributed to the struts or springs.

After having the struts adjusted to both the 2.1" (2nd from top) and 2.8" (top) settings - twice each because I was hunting for perfection :D - the truck rides and handles more comfortably over rough surfaces, speed bumps etc and with better cornering feel at the 2.1" setting than 2.8" . Vehicle was aligned after each change.

The difficult part is that each change costs time and money and there's no real way to know what you're going to individually like until after you've put in the time and money... then if you change your mind it's more time and money.

Moral of the story don't skimp out. Its costs more the second time.
