black package not truly black

They forgot to make the grill all black on my all black sport edition. I'm curious if there are all black grills that work on a 2016 Ram 1500 sport, and how easy they are to swap out. I like the quadrant style look, just not the chrome accented louvers.

You just need to get the black honeycomb grille inserts to replace the ones in you grille now.

You can't buy just the inserts from Mopar, you have to find someone that has swapped them out and selling them. They come up all the time in the for sale section on here.

you could just paint or plasti dip your current inserts. This picture isn't the best because its not a close up, but you can see that the inserts are black. I did them with plasti dip

it was a used truck, so not messed up. Just surprised the "black package" has a chrome accented grille

the build sheet and window sticker say black package. It has the body color/bright billets grille, as stated on the sticker.

Mine also has (had) the chrome grille inserts, I plasti-dipped mine as well. Much better look.

If it’s bugging you that much I’d take it to a paint shop and have them paint it. If you do the sanding etc.... prob save a few bucks. They prime and paint. Take them 2 min in a booth

I had the dealership swap my billet grille for a honeycomb grille off of one of the other trucks. They only charged me for labor.

I bought used honeycomb inserts from a member here, swapped mine, and sold my chrome inserts for more than I paid for the honeycomb.

so just a quick update for those that follow where others have already gone.

The 2016 grille has a support piece that runs along the top and sides of the backside of the grille. It it held on by 10 bolts. I used a 5/16 ratchet to remove them. They aren't hard to get off. Then there are 2 covers, one on each side, that seem to direct airflow. Those are held on by a slot and tab system. The tabs are hard to get out. It takes some wrangling with a screwdriver or other pry object. They are kind of robust, but don't get too heavy handed.

Now, once those covers are off, the real fun begins. The insert itself has another tab and slot system. This time, it's best to gently pry from the side of the tab/slot. If you do this right, you shouldn't break any tabs/slots. Take your time.

If you're shipping this to someone, the box I used is 30x24x6. My inserts went to CT from WI, and it cost me $35.00. Weight was about 7.5 lbs, give or take based on packing materials. I used bubble wrap and airbags.

I'm surprised that the honeycomb black grill isn't available from the parts counter. My truck with the Black Express option has the black grill, so if the grill was damaged in an accident I would think RAM would have the OEM replacement.

I'm sure it is. We've got a lot of swapping going on, for a much cheaper price. Some want chrome that have honeycomb, and vice versa
