Hello all, New to the forum here. I am looking for owner's opinion on running boards for my 2017 Ram 1500 Big horn. I ultimately want some that do not stick out a ton, are corrosion resistant (as much as possible) and are easy for my wife/ kids to use. I do live in Minnesota, so preferably ones that are good with traction to avoid slipping. Electric ones are out of the budget.

Debating on going with chrome or black.

Please feel free to share images/ brands that you recommend. Also, if there are any black Friday specials that will be coming up in the next few weeks!

Thanks!!!

Check out NFab step bars. I have had them on 3 different Ram trucks and they held up well. Mine were all black powder coated with texture. The individual step hoops are big, have grippy surfaces and are easy to use.

I purchased these for my 24. 1500 classic

I wanted them to stick out, you be amazed at how many door dings they stop. Unless you're in a lifted truck, your not going to hit the side of my new ram.

My daughter lives in St Louis Park, last year when I was over there in.the snow, no issues whatsoever.

Good price as well. Took about 2 hours to install.

I like the clean look - mostly no riders. I'm looking at a stirrup type just for the front doors. Have to figure out just how they attach.

These are very similar to what I've had for 8 years. You can see them in my avatar. If you can get them in "wheel to wheel" as Rado suggested I would go that route. Very much like mine on my '17 in MN.

They are not wheel to wheel. But close. I believe if you check the link I supplied, there is an option that says W2W

For fixed boards I really like these. They come right up tight to the body and will help keep mud and rocks off the paint work. All the boards with the big gaps are useless as protection for the vehicle. With box boards added these would be the perfect answer for PUs that are off pavement a lot.

Yup, as you can see, nothing really on the paint. I've been overlanding a bit and haven't scraped, or gotten stuff on the side of the truck too much. They easily hose off. Hopefully they will continue to work.

Big fan of the Amp Research power steps. Certainly not for protecting the rockers from getting crushed, but i don't rock crawl

If you go with chrome or black check the warranty before buying. They will rust whether it's just a year or 2 or 10 years. I have go rhino d2's on my truck (5 year warranty) and after the 2nd winter they started rusting a little on one of the welds. Go rhino is owned by real truck so I filled out a warranty claim with a picture and receipt of purchase. A week or 2 later there was a brand new set at my door on their dime.

Funny thing is I bought the original set from Amazon, one of their used like new or whatever their wording is for it, for a little over $200. Original price was like $400 at the time. Real truck still honored the warranty no questions asked.

Thank you for your responses. Quick question on the look. I have a lot of chrome on the truck (stock rims, door handles, bumpers). Do you all think black running board will look out of place?

Plan on changing the rims at some point. Which I will likely go to black.

This is mine. Lots of chrome, black looks good to me but the flame red is also a factor.IMGP0013.JPGIMGP0026.JPG

I got Luverne 7" Grip Steps. 102" WtW Also in MN! You want them to stick out. Easier to step on, plus protects the body from door dings and road debris.

I have a '24 2500 Tradesman and went with the RAM OEM black running boards and installed them myself. I'm in Texas and the traction is great when it's wet or if I have mud on my shoes. I'm not sure how these hold up in the north with the snow and de-icing chemicals they put on the road. I called local dealers with the part number to find the best price and picked them up when they arrived.

I prefer clean too. These are low cost, actually have a step lower then 2" below the door jamb (my wife is 5') this was my first add on when I bought my truck. Carr Steps.IMG_5735.jpgIMG_5736.jpg

Carr steps, about 140.00 Work great, chrome or black. There are a few other name that make these type but same construction. Take about 2-3 hrs to mount had em on my truck for 8 yrs. If they get worn after a few years you can take em off, sand blast em and repaint them or get them powder coated again.

I had the factory wheel 2 wheel on my 15 Ram. They looked and worked great. I'm removing the power boards from my 2020. Just ordered Rough Country HD2 running boards.

I put the Rough Country HD2 running boards on my Toyota before I got rid of it for my Ram. I liked them and I think I’ll get some for the Ram too. Let me know what you think.
