2016 3.6 v6, 73K.

I noticed small spots in the driveway about a week after I got the oil changed at a new place I'd never been to before (I moved recently.)

I wonder if they didn't tighten something enough, or over tightened something.

Any common issues you guys know of I can look for this weekend?

Could be a loose oil filter, could just be that they didn't do a good job of wiping things off when they were done lol!

I hope that's all it is. I'm going tot ake it back to them tomorrow and ask them to double check. They seemed nice enough and we all make mistakes.

On the 3.6 the oil filter is on top of the motor so definitely check that. They might not have seated the o ring on the filter housing correctly....

I had a 2017 Tradesman with the 6cyl and traded into a 2019 Classic with the 5.7 hemi. The 3.6 runs such high oil pressures it always concerned me a little about leaks. 100psi at startup, I understand about the dual pumps and why it pressures up but always cringed a bit at the pressures.
With that said am hoping it's just dripping from the outside not the inside. My truck had 40k at trade and was always a great truck with surprising power.
Best of luck!

I'm at a small Dodge Dealer in Dickson, TN getting it looked at.

Someone crammed a 19MM oil drain plug in there when stock is a 13MM. Last time I use quick change places. I know dealers are kind of expensive, but I'm going to have to replace the entire oil pan now.

At least it isn;t a design flaw. He is getting prices for me now.

NEVA use fast oil change places, U now know. Always use Dealership that is reputable or maybe a local Garage that you have checked out that does good MX work, or do them yourself... Live and learn and a Good Learning Experience for PPL here in this forum, all IMHO...................

ADDED: Oil pans can go from $35.00 to over $300.00, depending upon what U buy.

OEM PAN: about $75.00, gasket $15-$35, and Bolt $2.00, not counting labor, etc, from Mopar SIte: I am including URL so U can look at it: ADDED: You gonna have to pay for Oil, so have them put on another Filter also, just to be safe, all IMHO,.......

It will be $344 plus tax for parts and labor. About what I expected.

I liked these guys a lot, so I will go to them from now on.

No kidding. I was using a Valvoline place in my old city east of Nashville, and when I moved to another town west of Nashville, I went looking for a Valvoline place there, but they didn;'t have 5w20 synthetic in stock. I found some other independent place and the guys there seemed to know what they were doing, but I guess not.

it's also possible the big oil plug was in there before and just didn;t leak, so I'm, not sure which place put it there.

It took me one time to learn this lesson! The only time i did not change my own oil was when i was leaving out of town and didn’t have time. I dropped it off before work as we had to leave as soon as i was done working. Got about 30 miles down the road before my turbo 4 cylinder sounded like a diesel cause the drain plug was not tightened down all the way.

If you want it done right, do it yourself.

They probably stripped the threads & tried to coverup with the larger size plug.

I’m lazy but I always change my own oil. I do understand that you may not be in the position to do it yourself though.

I used to change my oil all the time myself in my previous vehicles, but I just cant do it anymore. Degenerative spine. Whenever I try to do anything I end up too sore to do anything but lay on the couch for 2-3 hours.

The headsize has nothing to do with the thread size. The standard thread size on mopars is 14mmx1.50 and there is no way anyone could get a bigger one in there without serious effort, that being said i have personally seen people overtighten the drain plugs on these trucks and actually warp the pan completely and the plug can no longer contact the entire surface on the pan causing it leak. Most inexperienced/novice techs use the fancy electric or pneumatic power tools that just destroy those pans/plugs. The other i have seen is factory defect where the hole for the plug wasn't drilled correctly and it was oblong vs circular. One other thing to note on these trucks is only use the soft rubber oem drain plugs as they require very little torque to seal and avoids warping/bending the pan.

Ask for the old plug/pan back if you can, and post a pic of it.. I suspect with a 19mm head it could be a "piggy back" or temp plug after they stripped the pan. It could be just a simple as they put in aftermarket plug after stripping the head (13mm) as it is very easy to do on those soft metal plugs. The leak could have resulted from an improper gasket with that 19mm head plug (or no gasket at all). Dealers can be less than honest though, especially when they find out you went to a competitor for business and they will make up stories so you only go to them for the future service.

I already have my truck back. If it wasn't really leaking oil, I may have been suspicious. But yeah, you cant really trust anybody these days.

That's awesome, must be nice to have it back! I'd probably check it within a 1k miles though, those pentastars don't have an oil pan gasket, they just use rtv sealant. Some times you can see sweats/leaks if it wasn't cleaned thoroughly before putting the new pan on. Goodluck
