Pretty slow at work, so I've been randomly browsing the forums and have come across a few heater threads. That got me to thinking, that my heater doesn't blow very hot either! Hate when that happens.

I've chalked it up to it being below zero for the last could of weeks (MN here), and I haven't driven the truck for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. Well, i think its something else. While I haven't dug out the thermometer and checked the lines going to/from the heater core, I have possibly pinpoint it to something else - but I'm not sure.

What exactly does the blend door do, and how many are there? My issue is this: When I have the air set to upper vent only, thats where the air goes and its warm (not as warm as I'd like, but hey). If I set it to floor - it also comes out of defrost. I can't differentiate between floor and defrost, or floor only. Is that a blend door that controls that? Or do blend doors literally just blend air from outside?

So the upper vents works as should. If I include any other mode that includes floor - it comes out floor and defrost (I neglected to test defrost only, not sure if that will be needed here though).

Just for your reference, Blend Doors control temperature and mode doors control what vent(s) get airflow.

The blend doors control temperature. The mode doors control which vents get the airflow. The Recirc door opens and closes to allow fresh air into the cabin or to block it off and recirculate the air inside the cabin.

If you are unable to control whether the air comes out of the floor vents or the defrost vents there may be an issue with a mode door actuator. The only rear way to diagnose a concern like this is to connect a scan tool.

I think my flaps are on the way out. Noticed recently when turning on climate control the floor vents open for a moment even though they are set to close . I don't recall it behaving this way, also the fan speeds for given set value seem less powerful as before..
