Bought a new used 04 1500 with the 5.7 low mileage 98k blend doors don't work, took to dealer and they are fixing it, but I dropped a part off I picked up for them from the dealer, they had the entire dash apart to the fire wall. Is that normal? They are replacing all the doors as air would only work to the vents in dash. no defrost etc. But when I saw it all tore down like this got me to wondering. IS this right?

The way the dealer would do it, yes. They rip the dash apart to change the unit, not just doors (not a separate part from the factory).

That’s completely normal. They are not real easy to get to and replacing them with oem parts will require removing the dash. I had to do it to replace my recirc box.

Is this a major project? What all is involved?

Yep... it's fairly major surgery to get to the area. Dash needs to come out, which means that a TON of other things need disconnected as well.
