Hi all,
I am extremely novice when it comes to modifying vehicles, but I would love to lift my 2012 Ram 1500. I am off road quite a bit between hunting, target shooting and taking the pooch to the river, where I do a tiny bit of crawling over ruts or washed out areas, nothing too extreme though.
Anyways, a buddy of mine said if I just want to get the front end up a little bit and have a bit more clearance I should just run 2 1/2" blocks instead of goin full bore on a lift kit. ( I do eventually want to do a nice lift kit and whatnot but funds right now don't allow for it) I was doing some research and most people say to never do blocks on the front end, but they were referring to leaf spring suspensions, is it the same for coils? (Which is what mine is I'm told)
any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Maybe start with a levelling kit? (Bilstein 5100's maybe?). Then theres either a RCX 1.25", Performance accessory 3", or Zone 1.5" Bodylifts available. All are under $400 (Installation on top of that though).

bilsteins and a 1.5" BL would put you around 4" of lift up front for $450ish

A body lift won't gain you any clearance though. If you go with a body lift you can do bigger tires for clearance. I would say go with the bilsteins to pick the truck up a bit. You get a good shock and and good lift at the same time

You're buddy is referring to a leveling kit for the front end. As stated above it can either be done with Bilstein 5100 adjustable front struts which is your best option. Or you can simply get 2.5" spacers to put on top of the stock struts to achieve the lift. Not as good of an option but it will get the job done.

If you want to check out some spacers take a look at Hell Bent Steel. They're one of the cheaper options around and provide good quality products.
