Blue smoke

My buddy just bought a 05 dodge ram hemi 5.7 he came over and we did a tune up on it plugs wires oil change. He broke the spark plug off in the head. So we took the head off and sent it to a machine shop to have them get the plug out. It ram great before this. We got the head back and put everything together and its idling rough and blue smoke is coming out of l exhaust. It sometimes goes away when u let it sit and idle but when u give it gas it's back. It's def blue smoke and coolant is always good. The only thing I can think of is the intake is leaking or the valve seals got messed up somewhere along the way. I'd like to try and figure it out before I start tearing back into it. He's pretty upset at this point and I'm not real sure about the hemi motor. Is there a way to test the vacuum to see if its the intake or not.

Blue smoke is burning oil...coolant would be white. Has it thrown any codes? Start there.

Next thing to check is the spark plug gap. What kind of plugs did you use?

Also - did you replace the head gasket and head bolts when you put the head back on?

Yes new bolts new gaskets we used the champion Cooper and yes we gapped them

Here are some things to check if you haven't already. Make sure all of the fuel injector O-rings are sealed and that the two vacuum lines on the back of the throttle body are connected. Also make sure that the ground strap got reattached on the back of the head. Check to see if the wiring for the front O2 sensor got damaged. Seems like something might have gotten missed when it went back together if it was running fine before.

Yea we put all new o rings and we checked them no leaks and ground strap is on. And hoses are on and the sensor is fine. Blue smoking only comes from burning oil right?

Yeah , most likely burning oil. Maybe the O2 sensor got fouled and that's why you're getting the codes? It was the passenger's side head that was removed right? Did they do anything else to the head at the shop besides remove the plug? If it's burning oil that usually means bad rings or valve stem seals. If youre going to take it apart again maybe do a compression test first like dodge dude suggested.

The good news is it sounds like it is burning enough oil that you should easily see it on a plug. While doing a compression check see if you have a dirty plug. You might consider replacing the valve seals. These can be done with the head on, but easier with the head off. Next I'd suspect a intake leak. Good luck...

Just pulled intake and there was oil in every intake valve except back passenger valve I cleaned it up and put it back in. Next step I guess is valve seats

Check the PCV valve.
