How difficult is it to remove the brake booster drum?

if thats not what its called, im talking about the ********* round thing that sits on the fire wall on the driver side.

hard to remove? anyway to do it without fluid spewing everywhere?

The Vacum brake booster?

It probably unbolts from the fire wall and brake pedal.

I suspect that you'd reach most of the fastners from under the dash.

its not to bad to remove. when you re installed the new one you do need to make adjustments to the push bar so that it sits just right inside. Its been about 5 years since i've messed with the vacuum booster, but i know you need to do some adjustments, i think its the bar from the booster to the master cylinder. Do some checking around online, but it should be a fairly easy uninstall/install. just bolts and nuts. you shouldn't have to disconnect any hydraulic lines, just be careful not to bend them. and no fluid will come out of the master cylinder when you disconnect it. if there is fluid coming out the master cylinder has some bad seals or some cracks in it and should be replaced. again, its been years since i've messed with the brake system on a rig outside of changing pads, or bleeding the system, so i could be off but this should give you a general idea.

Is your booster going out or something? thinking about upgrading to hydraulic?

lol. if you are planning on removing it and putting the same one back on i don't think you need to worry about the depth of the push rod, as it should already be set up correctly. i am curious what you got going in your head for it....if you do paint it its an easy thing to paint, but be careful not to put to much color in one spot.

you should see if you can get access to all data via your college, if you can download a copy as a student, it would be worthwhile, hell it would be worthwhile to buy your vehicle specific info on all data. its a very helpful and convenient database to have access to.

All Data. its a database with pretty much every single piece of info and how to data on most vehicles. for 1 vehicle i think its 25 bucks a year, or 45 for 5 years. worth it. better than a chiltons or haynes. have you never heard of it? i got a buddy who has the full mechanic version, i've been debating buying the personal version ever since he has moved to North dakota to work on the oil rigs...

its an invaluable resource. especially if you are the type of person to do your own work. it has all the info you could need, including troubleshooting info. last time i used it was a couple years ago when i was 19 doing work in an auto shop. it is an amazing program, and when i see myself thinking "i could use some help figuring this out" i usually have my friend check on his account, but i think i am going to have to purchase it myself here soon. lol
