BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR
2019 RAM 1500 Classic 5.7L, 87xxx miles, brake pedal started going to the floor intermittently. At first, it was just once or twice, and then nothing for several hundred miles. Long enough to forget about it. No low brake fluid or ABS light. I got the brake fluid flushed at the dealership and rear brake pads replaced, but they couldn’t replicate the issue. No codes, no error messages. Tech said front rotors and pads were fine, no issues. After that I had no issues for a few weeks and then one day it happened multiple times, while in a Chick-fil-A drive thru. A quick pedal release, second press and the brakes were back to normal. After that, the brake pedal started to go to the floor more frequently, once every 2 or 3 drives. I noticed it happened more in stop and go traffic or when multiple brake applications were made, never on the freeway or at speeds, luckily. Took it to the dealership, they drove it, I drove it, couldn’t get it to replicate. Crazy thing is, it happened twice on my way home. I decided to bite the bullet and got the master cylinder replaced, didn’t want to tempt fate and take any more chances, until now a second pedal pump and I would always get the brakes back. BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER - the culprit. My advice, use MOPAR fluid and OEM parts, I’ve come across a lot of owners having mixed experiences with after market parts, myself included. Make sure you blow out the brake fluid reservoir with compressed air to remove any gunk or debris before adding new fluid. Driven over 1500 miles, no issues. Hope this helps: Spongy brake pedal: possibly air in the brake lines/moisture in brake fluid (flush fluid, bleed all 4 corners and remove air); Hard Brake pedal: possibly Vaccum Leak/Malfunctioning Brake Booster
