Figured I’d give it a shot, done multiple searches and can’t find anything except something about Key Fob issues. Brand new 2025 Bighorn 1500 with SO Hurricane. On three occasions out of 75+/- starts I have attempted to start the truck putting my foot on the brake pedal and pushing the start button. Immediately upon pushing the start button the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor and the truck doesn’t start and a “Service Required” message appears briefly on center display. Immediately try again and and truck starts right up. No other unusual idiot light or message display after start up. Brakes work perfectly. I read somewhere in google land that this could be caused by an improperly programmed Key Fob. I began using the other Key Fob given to me about ten days ago and with 30+/- starts and truck has started 100% of the time no issues. Took truck to dealer with the above information and they informed me there were no stored messages and no OBD codes and they could not replicate the issue using the original Key Fob. I was told they reprogrammed the original Key Fob but I haven’t used it since. I have taken multiple long distance trips and frequent city driving since getting the truck back and there has been no issues. Anyone ever experienced or hear of this?

That’s a new one. Key Fob cause brake pedal to go to floor? Hmmmmm has no relation Fob to pedal. Got me. Definitely Document all and keep all receipts.

I agree but wondering why the brake pedal was good until pressing the start button. Maybe something related to the Key Fob and start button? I had a 2017 Limited and it did something similar with a “failed to start” message, never did it again. So many anomalies in vehicles, same 2017 Limited came out to start it and the 4 corner suspension had lowered just the front down as low as it would go, rear stayed normal, started the truck and got a “service suspension “ message, pushed it to OffRoad 2 settings, truck went up correctly to OffRoad 2, pushed it to normal right height which it did correctly. Took it to dealer they said no codes couldn’t replicate. Had the truck for 4 more years never did it again.

When the engine starts and/or the vacuum pump kicks in the brake booster has sufficient vacuum to operate properly.
Does the pedal come back up when you pump the pedal while the engine is running?

Yes but have never touched the controls for them.

I ask because I wonder if its the pedal motors/memory that make it look like a brakes issue. When the brake pedal sinks, does the gas pedal move too?

If it happens without the truck even running, and seems to be fixed with a different key fob...the memory of the pedals is married to they key fob and they will adjust when the key fob is used to unlock the truck.

It might explain why the issue occurs only with one fob and not the other.

The pedal comes back up as soon as I release it after the failed start, when I press the pedal again it is firm and in the right place, I press the start button and the truck starts.

I just have the Bighorn. The pedals are adjustable but they can’t be tied to individual Fobs or operators. The memory pedals are not an option I have, just plain old adjustable pedals.

For whatever it’s worth and praise to the no glitch gods, the problem seems to have gone away. I have had nothing but successful starts first time every time since switching to the new Key Fob. A friend in the biz (a Toyota Master Tech) thought there was a possibility of it being operator error. That being since I was use to the push button start on my old truck for so many years, my muscle memory for how hard to push that button to get that truck to start, and getting a new one with a different start button I might have been unknowingly pressing and releasing the start button too quickly and not far enough for the starter to engage and I would receive a service message because the truck failed to start. Admittedly since the last time the new truck failed to start I have been much more conscientious about how firmly I press the brake pedal and start button.

I know my screen name is SilverLimited but that’s because I had a silver limited when I signed up to the forum.

Nope. Most, if not all gen 4 trucks have TIP start.

Starting or stopping our trucks is a digital command, on or off, no part-way or in between.

Funny thing is, when I had TIP start I always used it like an actual key.

Reality is you just need to "crank" it to the start position once then let go. No need to hold it like you're starting an old school vehicle.

I finally awakened to that concept with my '07 Tundra.
A flick of the key, and let go.

I was fascinated by how many Toyota mechanics & SAs would twist the key and hold, waiting like the old days. LOL

Not that it makes any difference. The truck understands, regardless.

I have a 14 with push button start. These days it may sit for a week or so.
I have noticed that the brake pedal will be rock hard, not any down movement, before it starts, then as soon as the truck starts, it will go down a little to the normal feel.
I put it down to still the original brakes and fluid at 90km , till the pump/ vac. come up.
It's not a issue if I am using the truck more often.

Glad you posted this. My new 2026 Rebel has this issue. I'll try my other FOB for awhile.
