Bully dog finally sent me a program to unlock the tuner, installed it last night, no issues with engine light, drove about 10 miles to work this morning, not enough to notice anything yet, maybe it was because I was still sleeping, Blackhawks game went into overtime....

Just to keep everyone updated. I got an email from Bullydog saying the update for the special functions is done. Called them up and had their guy download the tune to my programmer. I had to uninstall then reinstall from the truck. None of the features worked. I called them back and got a different guy. After checking a few things he determined the last guy downloaded the wrong tune. He then reloaded the right tune and I installed it. Now some features work but some still don't. Of course the ones I want to use are the ones that don't work, TPMS disable, seatbelt chime disable and one other I don't remember what it was at this time. They told me to call back next Thursday now for another update. The saga continues.

Can anyone tell me the difference in stock/regular/performance, when installing the bully dog tuner? I have and s&b cai and 87 throttle body from moes, what should I have set it to when installing? I set it to regular, if I need to change it do I need to uninstall the program and reinstall it?

New to tuners so any help is appreciated.

It's all dependent on what fuel octane you want to run.
Of course the higher octane the better it will perform
Reg = 87
Performance = 91+

So what you are saying is I just reinstall the program? Then change it to premium when it asks me? Is that the same if I need to change shift points as well?

Just changed it to the premium setting and seems to pull harder..

Are the guys with the tuners leaving them hooked up all the time? Are you actually running the power cord thru the firewall to the fuse box?
Would I be able to tap into the wire that feeds the keyed outlet in the center console?

Hey Guys,

It's great to find these discussions!

So far I have just left it connected to the OBDII port and used the power selector to turn it off when not driving. I've only had it connected for a few days though. At first I had the P0601 error code but Bully Dog was very helpful and sent an email containing an update patch.

I have barely drove it so far. What differences are you guys noticing between performance and regular...waiting to fill up with 91+ octane first.

The only mods our truck (2013 1500 Sport) has is the Bully Dog GT for Hemi, Flowmaster exhaust, and a Volant cai. What do you think of a TB and catch can from Moe's? It seems like they get a lot of recommendations! Any input is greatly appreciated! I've never modified anything other than cosmetically before.

The TB and catch can will compliment the tuner nicely. The Catch can will ensure that you aren't getting any engine knock from the added timing that is in the new tune, and the TB is showing great results on both stock and modded trucks.

What octane fuel are you running, and which tune are you running? If you don't have a catch can yet, then your engine may not be getting enough fuel to use the added timing that the tune is giving you. If you don't have a catch can, try running 91 or 93 octane fuel but on the regular tune.

Check out my post just above this one. The tuner adds timing, and if you don't have enough fuel to support that increased timing, then that will cause engine knock. Once the computer detects knock, it will pull timing to keep the motor safe, but this also means a loss of power. I would either run a higher octane fuel than the tune recommends, or make sure you get a catch can on there to prevent from having any oil mixing with your fuel.

Hemi450hp, do you have a suggestion for the TB? 85 or 87?

On the 13's we only offer the 87mm. We tested the 85mm port, but the overall shape of the 2013 TB showed better gains with the 87mm port design. Because of this, we decided to only offer the 87mm...no point in offering an 85mm with the 87mm showing better results, even on a stock truck.

I don't feel any real difference either on the regular tune. I don't have a catch can but I didn't see anything on Bullydog's site about needing additional parts to get the performance they claim. Still waiting for them to update the tuner so all special functions work also.

I guess they still didn't remove any torque management. What a shame, I felt a big difference in my 2012. I don't understand why companies rush their junk out when it's not ready.

None of the tuning companies tell you that you need a catch can to get the best performance, but it is kinda the unwritten rule. I even know a few custom tuners that wont even touch your vehicle unless you have a catch can installed. Manufacturers always try to sell their product as being better than the next, but the guys that have been doing this for years know what it needed to get the most out of the truck. I always recommend a catch can to everyone that installs a tuner. BD did rush the release of the 2013 tuning, but I think you will be surprised at the results of either adding a catch can or just running a higher octane fuel than what the tune calls for. The added timing in the tune doesn't do any good if it is not getting enough fuel.

I'll be ordering a catch can also when funds permit it. I just wish these companies would give honest HP and Torque ratings for their products and not rush them out on the market. I bought the Bullydog because sites rated it at up to 32HP and 28lbs ft torque. I just saw another site rate it at 16HP and 20lbs ft. torque while rating a 2010 Ram at 30HP and 49lbs ft. torque. Both were for the 5.7. Are we really only getting 16HP? If so what is the big difference between the two years?
