I saw this bumper step on a 5th generation 1500 see attached picture. The unique aspect of it is it goes straight out/in from the bumper vs being on the left rear corner.

Can anyone tell me a part number for it?

I am wondering if it could be mounted on the side in front of the rear wheels, so I could take my full length running boards off.

If that step extends out, in the same way as most I've seen, you likely couldn't use it with the tailgate open. This would defeat allowing easy access to climb into the box.

You could try searching bumper steps with the site search utility in the upper right corner, to see if you can locate that device.

Don’t know I didn’t touch it. That said if I can find it I can maybe use on both sides in front of the rear tires.

I found this one, but they want crazy $$$.

Most of the commercially available steps I've seen have been designed to be installed in line with the rear frame rails.

If you can weld or make your own brackets, anything is possible.

So, my 21 fifth gen had that bumper step extending out the back, in the middle. The truck had the multifunction tailgate so it was super useful with the gates open. HOWEVER it could not be used with tailgate opened conventionally.
My 25, doesn’t have the multifunction gate. But the new set up for step is at the SIDE, so it can be used with tailgate down. It deployed alongside the tail gate. If any of this helps. So there is a OEM step side mounted but behind the rear wheel. I can take pics if you want, OP.

OP, here it is. OEM. With normal tailgate.
It’s interesting how your is mounted way lower than my on my 2500.

The only part of my step when in the stored position that is lower than the plastic below the bumper is the tab to step on to deploy it.

I wonder what causes the difference in mounting positions?

As long as you gleaned from my pics you CAN see step stowed away, not as represented on Amazon as “invisible” when stowed. That first pic I sent is stowed completely. It doesn’t go up anymore. It is not glaringly obvious and doesn’t jump out at you when you look, but it is visible! Hope you enjoy it! Mine was on there from new but no way would I have bought one afterwards for OEM money! Used it today extensively loading manure into bed for my wife’s garden. Up and down from side with tailgate open……..
