Just removed front sway bar, can this be welded or not?

I just called the local dealer in Florida and gave him my VIN number
He quoted me $895

That’s why people call them the “stealership”!

I’ll look online. Does anyone know the part number for the heavier front sway bar? I believe it’s 1.417 inches thick. Or a hair over 36 mm.
Are you saying you did not get the part number from them at the same time? Along with the thickness measurement?

I could tell after speaking with him for a few minutes he wasn’t going to be cooperative.

I actually found it online after doing some research. The part # is 55398938AC

That’s the 1.417” thick (or slightly over 36 mm) heavier sway bar . I ordered it from rock auto. With shipping and taxes it came out about $450. I should have it in a several days.

Glad you found the part number and a decent price at Rock. That said, you guys have some of the worst dealerships I have ever heard of. Some of ours aren't great but not once have I ever run into a dealer parts counter of any car brand that would not provide part numbers, specifications amd even printouts of the parts diagram. I can't believe aholes like you guys have can stay in business at all.

Most around me (Jersey) are jerk offs. Got no time to care about your problem; annoyed by follow up questions and such. But I did say "most" as yesterday I lucked into an exception. While working through a coolant system issue on a Subaru I was able to get a local dealership mechanic on the phone and discuss. He chatted with me for 15 minutes with no pressure or rush to end the convo. Ended by asking me to let him know the results and he seems genuinely interested in the outcome.

There may be hope for this world after all..
Sent coffee to that Subaru parts department this morning.

Good on you! Some people overlook doing something nice like that…and really that is just as important as the other guy caring in the first place.

Mine cracked in the same spot on my 2011 and my 2014 welded never had an issue.
I suspect that my end links were shot. And maybe other front end components. I’m waiting on parts

Did you have any idea of why your stabilizer bar cracked? Glad you were able to get it repaired!

I'd weld it. Worse thing that could happen is it cracks again. Stick weld with 7018 and it might be even stronger.

Since I already ordered the same front sway bar (and new metal brackets), I decided to clean up the rust where the mounting brackets go for the bushings. There was a fair amount of rust in that area.

I hit it with a 4 inch grinder with a flap disc sanding pad, and a small wire brush. Some of it is down to bare metal.

What should I prime and paint this with? I’m not sure if self etching primer and black enamel paint is correct?

I knew that post was coming, wish you would avoid those long worded post’s and just say how you really feel.

I just wipe things down with Acetone, then hit them with a semi gloss black rust paint, seems to work and lasts quite awhile. The diff under my truck was from a 2011 truck,i geve it a quick sandblast/wipe and wash down with Acetone then sprayed it with Tremclad semi gloss black rust paint, and that was 10 years ago,and it still looked brand new when i sold the truck awhile ago.

Is Tremclad a Canadian product? Many of the links are taking me to Canada based websites. And how many cans did you use on the underside of your truck?

I was self-employed for 35 years as a professional wall covering installer in the New York Metro area. My clientele were extremely wealthy. So I had to be specifically clear about anything and everything I was going to do while working. I’m sorry that that carries over into other categories! :)

He was quoting DILLIGAF’s post…when he said to toss the sway bar in the trash.

I like the upgrades you are doing and cleaning up as you go…looking good man !
