loading up fire wood to take to the folks today. then a little almost kindling sized piece bounces up and shatters the left window.

looks like they don't sell just a pane of glass, seems like the entire thing has to be changed. Hopefully USAA will cover it. Anyone know if the interior has to be disassembled for power sliders to be changed?

Irony: my headache rack comes in middle of this week.

I think the backseat and carpet on the wall have to be removed

Happened to me once in my 2006 Ram but it was my spare tire that popped up when I was breaking hard. The worst part was cleaning up all the glass, never could get all of it clean.

As for your rear window, I think the complete window has to be removed to be replaced.

thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately, confirming my worst fears. I have control issues and don't like others disassembling/assembling my truck. I might take it all apart myself and then take the truck in. In the mean while, those 1/2 inch plywood scraps are about to become very handy.

It does need complete replacement. When I went to pick up my truck, the rear window wouldn’t work so they replaced the whole window as they said they don’t come in pieces even for just the middle so I would think that would go for all with the same power rear window. And yes the carpet needs to be removed from back wall also, just make sure they put all the fasteners back unlike my dealer did! Gl.

Make sure a reputable glass place does it. Mine needed to be changed because 5 strips of the rear defroster didn't work. Long story short they messed up my headliner getting the old glass out and then I needed a headliner which requires the front windshield being removed in which they broke the auto rain sensor in the windshield. Then had to get a new one of those. It was a nightmare.

It looks like they sell the sliding pane separately, but the rest of it is all the same piece.

I busted the sliding pane on my old Frontier and that was an easy fix, but busting one of the stationary panes looks like its more expensive and complicated.

Maybe they can save a little bit by transferring the sliding portion.

Thanks. It all worked out in the end. They didn't put the interior back together properly and also the wiper cowl was bent. My truck was only 3 months old with 3300 miles on it. I complained about the service and shoddy repair which took 45 days. The GM ended up getting me another brand new truck exactly like my original one. So, it was all good in the end, though a pain in the butt.

these types of experiences, although not as involved as this one, are why I want to do it myself. I'm tempted to just shell out the $500 and do it myself if USAA won't pay for a new window. I'm assuming it's pretty much like putting in a windshield using urethane.

dang it. My USAA deductible is $500, I don't have a windshield waiver. A Mopar OEM replacement rear window is just under $500.

Been waiting on new tires so a new rear window is definitely going to be on hold. Also means my headache rack will sit in the corner of my shop for some months.

I think today is the day I should go buy a mega millions ticket, things might swing back in my favor...

yeah, saw that. you epoxy it on top of the broken glass remnants. not sure how that affects the slider portion for function since you stuff in a weather strip piece as it does sit proud from the rest of the window. Not that I use the slider much but for $100+25 shipping, that's not chump change to me. my plywood is free but looks a bit off. might paint it black, mount the headache rack and go until I save up for a new window.

$24 plexi glass and silicone from big box lumber store. before any flaming, I know it looks a bit.... sketchy. lots of the haze is dust - plexi collects so much dust. but as long as it keeps leaves out of my back seat, it'll work. I'll throw on the headache rack, window won't be as visible. slider portion works well.

by the time it comes about to sell the truck, the window issue won't be of significant value.

That's a happy ending but a huge pain I'm sure!
