I'm about to make a purchase on an '09 Ram with 40,000KM (24,000MI). Is there anything I should watch out for? Also, how hard is it to manipulate the odometer on these trucks? Is there a method of finding out if the odometer has been set back? I'm going to be inspecting the obvious places such as the undercarriage, engine bay, seating surfaces, etc. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Thanks, guys!

I can't comment on the odometer but I'd make sure that all the recalls have been performed before buying it.

Make sure the exhaust manifolds bolts aren't broke. It's an rrt on some of the 09s. Also check for water damage inside floor, the third brake light leaks water, it's an easy fix just replace the gasket for it. And make sure it has the recalls done.

The odometer is part of the computer system, you'd need a dealership or one of the few certified calibration shops to set it back.

The water in the rear storage compartments is fairly common, but it could be a good negotiation tactic to get some off the asking price. The exhaust manifold bolts are also a good one to look at.

Some people have had early front axle bearing failure, tell tale sign is getting under the truck and giving the CVs a shake, if they move on the axle side of things you'll need to replace them in due course. If the mileage is accurate then you should be fine but doesn't hurt to check.

Here's the underneath. It does have a 6" lift and has lived it's life up north. Does this amount of corrosion seem normal?

Look a lot like mine, and I'm not in the rust belt either.

x2

Yup, mine had the leaking 3rd brake light as do a lot of 4th gens. I was freaking when I was in my first big rain storm. Had water coming down on my 1 year old....lol

24K is really low for a 09. So you should be ok for the most part, but I would get the rear end pinon nut recall done no matter what..

Also check the TSB for the HVAC actuators. You hear a loud popping noise behind the dash. Bring it too the dealer.

Pay an independent mechanic of your choice, to look at the vehicle. My pop used to use this travelling mechanic service when he bought used cars in NY. They sort of come out to wherever the car is located at. There may be some similar service in your area. And best to get a certified truck if possible!
